I loved Burger Chef as a kid - of course it was the only fast food restaurant we had in my hometown - I loved the kid's meal - it came in this neat box that had separate little compartments for the burger, drink and fries - and they always gave a sucker and some sort of toy.
We didn't get a McDonald's till I was about 10 - once that happended everybody quit going to Burger Chef- later it became Mr. Cook.

I miss it.
I think the last one was at Plank and Airline where there was a Woolco behind it. Think it is a storage place now.
I liked it better than Hoppers but Hoppers was really before my time unless you include the newer version that one of the Shaabs started not many years ago.

hoppers at florida blvd....was more of a place to be seen and show off your car...food was pretty good but really we were kids and were lucky if we could afford fries and a coke...If we had enough money for the burgers we would just buy something else for the car instead....lobdale blvd beside the mall was a vacant blvd....and a perfect dragstrip....and premium gas was only 40 cents a gallon

How's Ouncy doing? I saw his sign the other day and I'll stop in for some gumbo. Haven't seen him in a couple of years.

I used to go to the one on Fla. Blvd in between Lobdell and Wooddale across from the Handy Andy. Used to load my burgers up with mustard and pickles.
Loved the burgers at Bonanza too.

Burger Chef, Louisville Av Monroe. That was a long time ago. Shakes and burgers !! Also remember the first pizza I ever ate, was at Shakey's in Monroe. We lived about 50 miles away, and considered a trip to the city a big treat !!

Hell yes. I worked at the Highland Road restaurant in the early 70's as a student. Kept me from going hungry.

I think there was one on Kaliste Saloom in Lafayette. The kids meal had that plastic 45 record with "spooky Halloween sounds" on them. I loved that place!

Our H.S. basketball team when playing in Lake Charles would eat at Burger Chef if we lost and eat at MacDonald's if we won. Maybe that's why we always lost?

Toto's across from where the Palm Reader used to be near NLU off 165 was waaaaay better than Burger Chef.
There was also a BC near South Grand..if you made it to South Monroe much you'd pass it..we'd get their burgers to go many times on the way to visit my grandmother who lived near the Holsum bakery.
Shakey's pizza was good..so was the Godfather's on Louisville. Spent many a Saturday at the Cinema III by Kmart.
Remember Pasquali's Pizza?

No, the drive in, IIRC from conversations with Mr. Marion and my dad it was on Scenic Hwy.
Edit: It was on the corner of North Foster and Florida, were the burger king is now.
