i always stress over whether to tip or not when i pick up food "to-go" from places.

normally i'll leave a dollar or two out of guilt, but in my opinion the food was only cooked and brought out to the front of the store. i drove there and i picked it up. i was not waited on.

another thing to consider is when you get food to go from the bartender. is their more tendency to then want to tip the bartender. simply because we always tip when purchasing a single drink from them.

what say you OT?

I do not unless it is a large order. If it is just for me or me and the gf I never tip. I mark through it write the total and sign.

Do you tip the guy/girl at McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc? Same thing.

It really depends on the place. If it's bar service where the bartender bagged it up, made sure I got silverware, etc. then I leave a dollar. But at Chimes where they have a girl who sits on arse and rings up to-go sales, no.

Curbside: one or 2 dollars.

I usually don't tip for takeout for just myself or me and the wife. No one waited on me or refilled my glass or made sure I had enough bread. The threw a sandwich in a box.

ETA: I always tipped the girl at AM Mart, though. She was a sweetheart.

I always tip at Sonic, more than a dollar if they're on roller skates.

Who are you tipping, though? Who does that go to? The hostess at the front? The person who was lucky enough to get asked to walk a few steps, slide your card and then give you a mint?

I don't stress because I always tip. $1 if it's just my food, which it usually is.

I worked to-go for a couple years in high school. I never got too mad when people stiffed us, cause like people have already said, all we do is bag up your order, get your payment, and give it to you.

But I will say that Outback at least does not pay minimum wage to to-go employees ($3.50/hr), so your tips were very much needed and appreciated, even if we didn't do too much. a couple bucks was fine with me, though some people do tip 15-20%..why I don't know.

eta: i'm talking about curbside
