BR is turning into the chicken finger and donut capital of the world.

I didn't say that. I said he is leaving. I haven't gotten much past that point yet.

Like everyone else said, their items other than donuts are where they really shine. A light and airy hot glazed is my favorite type of donut too. I grew up eating Jay's for those who still remember that. District's donuts are the polar opposite. They are giant and rich. I think of them like tiny cakes. Baker's Dozen on Jefferson has the closest to Jay's glazed I've ever had. I could eat 13 of those right now.

BR residents should beg for him to open District Sliders and HandPie shop instead of donuts.

Agree, the donuts are the second most overrated food item in New Orleans right now.

Only place I ate donuts growing up (lived in Lake of White Oak)
I like Heavenly Donuts on Highland now

I have had many donuts, and few compare, honestly, to the Krispy Kreme fresh from the fryer.
The short list of even comparable donuts is:
Voodoo Donut in Portland, OR
Tastee Donut in New Orleans (particularly their powdered sugar, bavarian cream filled donut)

their savory breakfast sandwiches and lunch dishes look good.
Skip em.
Better off going to Stein's next door for breakfast/lunch, District for dessert.

I think a place like Gautreau's or Coquette would print money in BR.
District is right up their alley. I didnt really think it would be any good, but it is surprisingly passable. And i agree, their donuts are good but the other things are better

Anyone been to District Pies yet? I still need to make the journey there.

I go all the time. I like savory over sweet and they always have a good selection of savory pies.

Ugh. Mary Lee Donuts. The one in Drusilla Shopping Center, the donuts all have a slight strange aftertaste, that's somewhere between raw garlic and how nail polish remover smells
Yeah, they need to do something about that one. Their donuts are considerably worse than the Mary lee on Perkins. You can't even tell they're the same company, their donuts taste so different.
