I agree with many folks who have already posted -- I've never been successful in ordering one, regardless of the time of year --because the machine is always "down" at multiple locations.

Yep. My daughter, wife, and her mother went by one the other day and ordered two soft-serve cones and a dipped cone for the mother-in-law. After waiting a few minutes, they asked them to pull up and wait, since they had to turn on the chocolate machine and melt chocolate for the dip. I guess technically it was working, just not on at the time. I'd have just taken a regular cone and been on my way, but they waited for some reason.

Eh, depends on the McDonalds I guess. I got 2 last month that each came with double cones (paper and all) and the ice cream was watery. Sucked out loud.

I find it amazing that all I ever read about online is that McDonald's employees never have the cream machine working, yet i can count on one hand the number of times I've been told that in my entire life. Am I just super lucky?

Last time I ordered was one my last.
They keep the chocolate in an open air container on the counter, somewhat under a heat lamp. Warms it up to a nice 105 for all the germs to really grow.
