Devil Moon BBQ (Nola CBD)

Went today. This opened recently and is paired with Saint X Brewery.
The food ranked very highly in Quality, Quantity and Relative Price. Even the sides have that extra level of good taste. For example the dirty rice and baked beans are much better than expected. The ribs and brisket were perfect. Seemed more the dry rub style. Maybe Texas style. I can’t wait to go back.
The service was almost nonexistent. Five tables seated so not crowded but took forever. 10-15 minutes seated until first visit for drink orders. Another 10-15 to get them. I ordered the Gator Boots IPA to try and didn’t come out with the other drinks. I finally had to track down a staff person to get it. It was really good but I didn’t order or try another since the taps were obviously almost not functional. Zero drink refills. Again after finishing and waitingt 20 minutes we had to track down the “waiter” just to get the checks.
I devoted many words to the service issues just to properly inform people but again I can’t wait to go back bc the food QQP was so good. Hopefully they work that out.

Went there before a concert and left because no one ever showed up to take our drink order

You must have eaten in back. The front is counter service and comes out quick
I’ve been 3x
1st time I ordered 2 sides and neither came out correct. Brisket & sausage were ok
2nd time also underwhelming
Last week I went & got the beef cheek sandwich and it was prob the best single piece of smoked meat I ever had in New Orleans
Don’t love the drink situation. In fact it’s a flat out scam and not sure I’ll go back much because of it
Seat is also very uncomfortable and poorly set up in front

Why would anyone think it’s smart to start a brewery now lol

OP, you took the words right out of my mouth
Told the wife I wanted to try Saint X/Devil Moon for Father’s Day. I ordered the 3 meat combo and selected the spare ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Sides were dirty rice and Mac. I brought the sides home because I just wanted to eat the meat. Quality and taste were excellent. Pulled pork was some of the best I’ve had.
We ordered drinks at the onset and hadn’t received them by the time our food came (15-20 minutes later). Saw our “waiter” and said to just cancel the drinks. He shrugged it off. To the restaurant’s credit, he came by with the drinks later because the bar “had already made them” but still had removed from bill. Service was lackluster. They need to get that in check prior to football season or it’ll be a rough go.

How does this happen

Brewery side is awesome and part of the menu is from the BBQ side.
No service issue.
This is a true high end brewpup. The peeps that put this together are the conglomerate that owns Blue Jacket brewery and ChurckKey in Washington DC

We were seated on the brewery side. Not sure how it takes that long. They weren't exactly slammed at 12:45pm. Again, food was great quality and flavorful, but can you imagine what the place will be like on a Saints gameday?

There are experiences above that disprove this.

I have been there 4 times.
Trout, chime in you were there yesterday. Issues?
Also, you can’t order a 3 meat bbq on the brewery side,, different menu, that is the BBQ side of this place.

I mean. This was three different people all with the same issue. One was twice.

I am not sure why you don’t understand this, the BBQ place they are talking about is separate from the brewery. OP is speaking about Devil Moon.

Service was a tad slow but I slam beers faster than Tacky can come up with troll posts. Food hit the table in a timely manner and everything was great.

I went a couple weeks ago. Brisket and ribs were meh. Sides were good. Boudin was not good.

I went for Father's Day as well. Ate at the Devil's Moon, counter side. It sounds like we were there earlier than the other posters above, as we had no service issues. The brewery side was not even open yet (we came about 11:30am) but the Devil's Moon waitress went over there and got our draft beers for us.
I had the turkey and brisket, with pork&beans and collard greens sides. The meat was tender but did not have any smoke taste, or much taste at all really. You had to add sauce for taste. The sides were excellent.
After eating we went over to the brewery side and sat at the bar and tried some more of the beers. By that time, it was getting pretty crowded and they only had one bartender working. So I can see why they had issues filling drink orders timely. The beer was excellent though. I especially liked the Gator Boots IPA. My wife loved the sours. They only had to go cans for sale for about 5 of the beers. I brought home a few IPAs but my wife was disappointed they had no cans of the sours and did not have crowlers available. The bartender said something about "corporate" has to send them the beer labels.
Overall, it's a nice place. I agree the brewery is high end. It has the look more of a fancy bar that happens to make its own beer. They'll need to hire more bartenders for Saints games. We were told the brewery side will soon get an expanded food menu that will not be limited to the Devil's Moon bbq.

I’ve eaten here about 5 times. There dirty rice is phenomenal. Have had the platter twice which gives you all the meat and sides and split with two other guys and it’s really fricken good. Pastrami Thursday is some serious good meat and I’ve been waiting to try those beef cheeks

I went once when they first opened and was not impressed. I guess I should give them another shot.
