Seems it's much like Pequod's in Chicago.

Having grown up in Metro Detroit in the 60’s and 70’s, my Italian grandmothers made this routinely. It was “Gramdma’s pizza” and it was the best. Homemade dough and sauce, and always mozzarella. It wasn’t unusual to see this come out at Midnight on Christmas Eve. Also very common at wedding receptions on the eastside of Detroit at the end of the night. When made right, like all things, it’s fantastic.

Except it's rectangular and probably not as much sauce.

They're are a number of places that make this in Portland. I didn't even know that it was "Detroit Style" when I first had it. I thought I was going to be disappointed when I first saw it, but that crust is legit. Crispy and then kinda chewy. It was great. Now some places undercook the crust and it's just soft and chewy, and that's not good.

Detroit Style Pizza

Anybody familiar with this?

Honestly had never heard of the style until this thread. One of the many, many things I've learned on this site.

I ended up checking out the new Ex Novo :rouge: pub in Beaverton and had their Detroit style pizza. I have no comparison to what's real Detroit style but if it's anything like what I had I'm a fan.

More like Sicilian style pizza, got it once with wife and we had no idea, we came home with pizza that could have lasted a week but we still couldn’t eat it all after take out. Good but after 2-3 square pieces you’re full from all the dough

Damn, that looks good. How busy was Ex Novo? Looks to be rocking, from what I've seen.

A new place just opened in Atlanta that is doing Detroit style pizza, Nina & Rafis in O4W. Pretty damn good.

That pizza looks really good. I've seen Detroit Pizza with and without the sauce on top. Someone mentioned earlier that there wasn't enough sauce. Not the case when they add the sauce that way.

That crust looks damn near perfect.

Not to be mean but this looks like the worst pizza I have ever seen in my life. I have never even imagined anything that looked this bad that was supposed to resemble pizza. If anyone passed this off for money they should expect or be happy to have not been sued. This is just unacceptable in every way.

Hell no

Like Detroit, it looks like a disaster of a pizza.

I’ve always called it Stouffers, but Detroit works too.

I just googled it. A sheet pan pizza with little toppings and lots of bread. Doesn't get my vote.

Jets is a chain that makes it. We order it a decent amount. It's good.

Yeah, that ain't it.

In my experience, it's always square and doesn't look sloppy (like the round pizza in your images).

That said, should be heavy on cheese, and tomato sauce should have some bite to it.

As for toppings, you get what you like (although it does seem that the majority of Detroit pizza eaters do go for a limited number of toppings (often one, two at the most).

DIB were Sicilians.

Pequods is fricking delicious. It's an institution in this town. Probably a 2 hour wait right now.

These pizzas remind me of the stouffers pizzas I grew up with and you would flip the pizza container with the shiny part and put it in the microwave. Use to over cook them and get them extra crispy

Toof. Not Stouffers. Damn good.

ETA: Enjoy your downvote, although it wasn't me that gave it to you...
