Desi Vegas Smokehouse & Tavern

Following on the Tavi and new on the northshore thread, I saw signage go up for Desi Vegas' Smokehouse and Tavern, off Hwy 22 in Mandeville. This is in a space that has been a revolving door of seafood and Asian places that is across was Sawasdee and in the same center as Mandina's.
Any one got any scoop?

The Desi Vega on 190 in Covington was like that too. It's still a really weird space.

Wait. Sawasdee is closed??? Please tell me this is a typo, because that's the best Thai food I've had since Bangkok in the same building as the old Rock and Bowl closed down due to Katrina.

Absolutely. It has been a club, a few restaurants, a club again and now a club/steak place. Apres (how chic!) was a failing club in which the owner bought a franchise right from DV to try and save his business. Now it's doing very well due to the steak house, but really the food is very inconsistent. The club side is so small and narrow that people just stand around looking posh but can't do much.
It's the strangest thing. I do not recommend, but my wife seems to like it for some reason. I guess it has its fans

The one or two times I've been in there for lunch it's nothing but women.
Also, an extremely weird spot for a "club". People go there for that? Seems so odd for Covington and that stretch of 190 in particular

Look at their instagram
Lots of plastic boomers looking to be seen. Large breasted women and guys with thinning hair in Robert Graham shirts

Apres a great place to find an aging folks who work in northshore real estate.
To my original post, 1) Sawasdee is still open and appears to be going strong; 2) the Mandeville neighborhoods around the causeway and the approaches really need a good spot for post-commute happy hour and dinner. Not sure if this spot will fit that bill.

Saw the signs go up last week. Their website doesn’t have a menu yet but hopefully they have a solid bar. That stretch of 22 needs something

Traffic is a big part of dooming that location. Maybe after the bridge expansion is may be better.

There are actually many good options in that area but still excited by DV and plan to visit often.

If imma running a place I’ll take these peeps over broke millennials with lack of people skills and no food appreciation outside fast food.

Desi is a great owner and I’m sure the place will be great. Desi’s in heritage plaza is one of my favorite places to eat

Just had the burger from there today and it was excellent! Cooked perfectly and the fries were on point as well.

The space and most of the menu is pretty good. Seems to have great drinks as well.
The bbq itself is not great. $40 for a plate with dry brisket and mushy ribs. The sausage was fine, but it's pretty hard to get that wrong.
Order a sandwich and some sides instead of the bbq meat.

Do they use a real wood burning smoker?

Could not tell, honestly. Smoker is not visible on site.
