Mr John's is dimly lit, intimate, can be loud. Small dining room. Old school feel

True as far as the steak. But if someone was deciding between Mr. John's and Desi, I wouldn’t recommend Doris as it's quite a bit different beyond the meat.
I've been to both recently, and I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I enjoyed my meal at Desi (in Metairie mind you) more than Mr. Johns.

Desi metairie has turned the corner as of a few months ago. I think they were forced to get their shite together when the crowds flooded them due to Covid and the city mandates. It was pretty crappy the first year or so they were open

I got steak there right before Christmas and it was "ok"
