In the world of cutting boards, that little thing is nothing more than a novelty.
Damn thing is only 10 1/2 inches across. At that size you'd have a hard time keeping a medium onion being diced to remain on it.

What really makes end-grain boards more expensive is the time it takes to make them.
You have to size all the wood being used to be extremely uniform so they will glue up evenly as you assemble the board so no gaps appear in the final product.
It is much easier to glue up face grain wood to get large dimensioned boards. A 14 x 20 face grain board will only need 7 pieces of wood 2 inches wide by 20 inches long. The same board using end grain will need 70 pieces if using 2 inch squares as the material.

Wooden boards look nice, but I actually prefer the Oxo Good Grips Polypropylene Carving & Cutting Board. Light, easily washed, inexpensive, no special maintenance, lasts forever, and stores out of sight on the rack with or sheet pans.
Get the biggest one. I bought a large and medium. Even when I think I have just a small job the medium could handle, I usually end up wishing I had pulled the large one.

Found a guy in my neighborhood who does wood work to make me one. Love how it came out. Questions tho… what kind of oil to y’all use and how often to you oil it?

This is what I use on my board. I try to oil it at least once a month. You can tell when it needs it bc it will get lighter and really dry.

$500 for a 18" x 18" piece of wood?
You could pay someone more handier than you to go find a tree of your liking on the side the road, cut it, plane and sand it, then coat it for less than that.
My friend literally does this and sells his for $100
