I'm eating all I can. Boiling regularly. I hope the farmers get some relief when this is over. Thank God we live in a country that can feed itself in crisis.

As a crawfish farmer I can tell you a lot of our crawfish go towards catering business. I would say 15%-20%. That might not seem a lot but it’s the difference between catching all you can and being on a sack limit. And no crawfish farmers won’t get govt compensation that’s not how it works. We get compensation for rice when there is a compensation situation but crawfish is in a whole different ballgame

Everything is reported we don’t get cash we move 200+ sacks a day. It’s just different it’s considered aquaculture not agriculture so it falls into a whole different bracket

I bought 3 sacks of really nice crawfish for $135, I cant ever recall buying them that cheap during lent in the last 15 years. As it stands I have about 8 pounds of peeled tail meat in my freezer. Plan to do some more soon.

I'm sure there's a high loss by cancellation of catered events and what not. We had one scheduled where we moved 130 sacks last year and this year was setting up to be even bigger.

Yes. And the comment was made that 85-90% of what is caught goes to dine in restaurants. Dine in restaurants aren’t the largest sellers of boiled crawfish. Take out business is the bulk of that market. The 15-20% of product going to caterers is largely dependent upon the fisherman, the quality of crawfish, and the network he or the dock has. That would be well on the upper end of that scale for any particular fisherman who catches more than 10 sacks a day.

Got a couple sacks yesterday from an old friend in swla. He got 580 acres - catching 80 - 110 sacks and expecting it to increase. No problems selling all he catches at $1 a pound. You do the math. He ain't doing bad.

Our school was scheduled to go their large “cook off” this month. Usually go through 12,000 pounds or so. Just one of many like that in this area that has been cancelled
