We planned on boiling this coming Sunday but my nephew's (NOLA area) supplier has told him basin crawfish may be hard to find if not completely done by then. He said the pond have become so hard shelled that there is a big run on basin and the supply just isn't there. They were running about $1/lb more retail and we were willing to pay it but I'm not sure the guests will be happy with hard crawfish. We'll probably just roll the dice and hope basin are available this weekend and if not just suck it up. May have to have some smoked meat ready just in case.

This crawfish season seemed really short, probably due to the lack of boils during lent caused by the higher pricers.

I went to a boil Saturday. Not sure where they were from, but they were fine. This was in NOLA. Would one week make that big of a difference?

You’ll have never have any issue getting crawfish from mid February to mid May.

Whether it’s basin or pond, I don’t know, but they will be available.

Pond is about done by now. This is typical each year.

May through early June is all about basin and Belle River.

Prices do pop a bit on mother's day weekend.

I’m gonna jump in your thread with a question of my own. We are having a boil this weekend. About 10 adults and 2-3 children. We will be grilling boudin as an appetizer and we will have sausage, mushrooms, and of course corn and potatoes in the boil. We are also doing about 5 pounds of shrimp. Have much crawfish would you get? Should 1 sack suffice?

I always go with 5 lbs per adult and 3 lbs per kid (for those eating).

That usually results in some leftovers, but not a lot.

He told you that, and you gave him $1 more per lb. Seems to work for him.

Thanks for the reports and replies. That’s good news.
May have to pull a Fredo and go against the family.
