It really is the alcohol markup in restaurants that infuriates me the most. I get why they do it because no one would pay $35 for a hamburger. But christ cant I just get a draft beer for like $2-3 bucks.

No doubt. My go to bar has NOLA Blonde for 3.50 a pint. They needs to make the cash on beer and if I am willing to pay for it I am not going to bitch about it. They usually put these things called PRICES on menus. If you are willing to pay and it was good I see no point in bitching about the cost of a meal.

because its a place i would like to go back to but I probably won't because I cant justify spending that kind of money for what I was served.

its good food.

But Nothing overly adventurous in my eyes to make it that pricey. To me It's pretty much a spin on soul food.

They are using better ingredients and have a higher end place, but I see your point.

Shoot, pretty certain the buffet at Dooky Chase's hovers around $19, which is expensive for soul food.

There is a certain stigma that certain foods always need to be cheap: chinese, mexican, soul food fall into that more often than anything.

But really nothing changes in making those foods cheaper in a restaurant than say hot dogs or meatballs and spaghetti. Most of the costs are similar.

$14 for a catfish platter isn't a bit much? It's peasant food.

I'll have to get the burger next time.

im not saying it should be cheap for the record. Just a little cheaper.

i realize those types of cuisines have the stigma of being cheap, which is wrong. But they also don't deserve to be overpriced.

Went to eat at a place in Houston (the Heights) called Glass Wall on Wednesday. Don't know what the normal prices are, although I would imagine they are pricey. They gave us a beer menu, has like 6 beers on it. They had one beer, and I don't remember what it was, for $9.50. The cheapest one was $6.50.

That bar is like a personal ATM for the owner.

By the far the worst offenders of this are "wine bars"

$12 for a glass of shitty Malbec one could by for $9 at a corner liquor store.

This place was heavy on the wine, had an enormous list, but I couldn't find a single Chianti. But look, this place was, as me and by buddy aptly named, a "cougar den." So, you know...it kind of goes along with the clientele.

I am really trying to limit the amount of alcohol I order at restaurants because that ends up being half the bill. I would rather eat high end food with one drink for the same price as a middle tier place with a bottle of wine. A drink or two before or after I leave works just as well.

Bump. This thread made we go today for lunch. An order of tamales, Hi-Hat burger rare and two NOLA Blondes. Service was excellent and I am stuffed. Could be nap time.

I thought about getting the tamales for an app. Ended up settling for the white bean salad, which was good. And only $3
