Looking for a decent cookware set for a Christmas gift to ourselves. And I'm certainly no chef, but hoping to spend more time in the kitchen the next several years.

I ran across a suggestion on some via the NYtimes consumer page, but I know often these suggestions are compensated.

NYtimes Wirecutter

Tramontina Set at Home Depot

I really don't know what to look for in a cookware set.

My stainless steel gumbo/stock pot and a couple non stick skillets are Tramontina. I am more than pleased with the quality.

I have some Tramontina cookware as well as All Clad. The Tramontina works, looks as well as The All Clad. Would recommend and buy Tramontina again.

Every website I've read on the subject has rated the brand extremely high. I plan to gift it to myself for Christmas too.

If you have a Costco close by you might check out there line of clad cookware. I looked at some the other day and it looked really nice.
$199 for a 10 piece set.

I second the Kirkland's set at Costco. For the money it's hard to beat.

Yea, it being 5 ply with the copper core at that price is hard to beat. The only thing that would make me nervous about it is it saying only oven safe to 380°. That’s kind of strange.

I noticed that myself but still for the price.......!
For the savings you could get the one or two pieces you'd tend to put in the oven at such high heat.

Sorry so long to get back to this thread. Was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Tramontina and remembered this thread.

I think I'll try to get by Costco in the next day or so. Thanks Highcotton.

If someone wants the Tramontina set, it's on sale on the Kohl's site (ends today though.). Put THANKS in coupon box. 10 piece for $296 with shipping and tax.
