Looking to purchase a couple cookbooks as a gift for friend who now lives in south LA after living in Iowa his entire life.

I was considering river road series…..any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

I'm a big fan of the "Talk About Good" two book series.

They are chock full of La. home cooking recipes and put together by the members and relative of the Lafayette Junior League.

They have been my go-to cookbooks for years if I feel like trying something new.

The Encyclopedia of Creole and Cajun Cuisine by Folse. You may not want to spend that much though. He has a couple of similar ones also.

I have 3 of the John Folse cookbooks, but they all have stories and are a really good coffee table piece.

Frank Davis Seafood Notebook is a good one but lacks bells and whistles. Kinda plain but a good read with info.

I have them but only really use RR I.

For a beginner, I suggest River Road I and Pirate's Pantry (the Lake Charles version of River Road).

America's Test Kitchen Complete Season cookbook would make me happy...if I didn't have it already.
