In Nola for a few more days and was going to walk down to Central Grocery for a Muff tomorrow, but I've been reading that theirs has gone down hill and they're using inferior ingredients and the sammiches are smaller. I've been reading good things about Cochon's. Anyone had it?

Never had the muff at the Butcher, but I've eating there often and never had a bad meal. Always spend too much money there b/c I always buy meat (duck pastrami is great ) to take home. I've eating the muff from CG about a half dozen times this year and it's still one of my favorites. Don't know where you are staying but the walk from CG to the Butcher is a far one.

Skip the muffaletta and get the pork belly sandwich at the butcher. You won't regret it.

I've had both since the beginning of this year and Central is the better choice for muffaletta. Butcher does have alot more to offer, though. Butcher muff is no slouch.

I get the Central Grocery muffaletta alot. It's still good.. on Saturdays the line is horrific. If you want a muffaletta and can go during the week and there's no line.. go for it.

This. I've only had one at CG this year that I thought was somewhat stingy with the portions, especially compared to what I had had there previously. But last Saturday it was on point. Butcher's muff is really good, just not the same. As for the line on Saturdays at CG, it moves fast.

Yeah, they make them all in advance (which, contrary to what some may think, is actually a good thing for a muffaletta) and move the line really quickly.

Boudin+Dirty Rice

That seems like sort of redundant menu selection.

ive eaten them for 20+ years and havent changed. The size definitely hasn't. You may come across one that isnt as well stacked, but it certainly isnt the norm. Its the best in town

Well I wanted Boudin but they had no spicy mustard so I got the dirty rice. Then they had a boudin with a busted casing the couldn't sell and gave it to me free of charge. So yeah...I'm stuffed.

I walked down to Central. Still good, but it was a little light on the olive salad(that's the best part). Just had a sandwich and a Barqs. Then I walked down to the market, decided I was hungry again and bought the dirty rice cause I was craving something I could dowse in hot sauce.

I am not a fan of Central Grocery's muffy...The last 2 times I have been there their bread was very stale. I haven't had Cochon's Muffy but every thing else I have had there has been good.
