The Serious Eats chili con carne recipe is absolutely superb.
I concur.
I didn't put any liquor in at the end though.

Only poor people put beans in chili.

Don't know about your statement, but no beans for me. Love beans and love chili, but I pass totally on chili with beans.

Is that a jar of BBQ 3000 in the upper right corner of that picture?

I like it either way, but a great beanless chili really hits the spot. Meat and peppers all the way.

I put 2 cans of this in my full recipe(2#'s ground sirloin & 2#'s ground pork) Use a 12oz bottle of Abita Amber and a cup of water for my liquid....use this chili powder as well. Should sweat just a tad bit underneath your eyes.

I'm a bean person.
I even go full Yankee heathen and fix it the way my Mom does with noodles sometimes.

Chili on it's own - beans
Chili on a dog - no beans
Those are the rules.

Def beanless chili for chili dogs or chili burgers.

Why would someone prefer chili sans beans?
Probably because its better.

Pretty much every chili competition out there won't let you use beans as they're considered filler.
You can be a "chili enthusiast" and eat any type of chili you like. But for competitions you'll have to 86 the beans.

You won't eat it even if it's the only thing to eat? That is a rather absurd line of thinking for someone who is normally so sensible.

If I'm starving and in need of substanance, I would, but that scenario is unlikely. I don't care for beans in chili. Don't like the texture of them in the chili. I like the meat and peppers with sour cream, chopped onions and cheese. Sometimes, I put sliced tamales in the bowl first and then the chili.

No it's not. If I need to eat it to be polite, I would eat around the beans, but I haven't been presented with chili that had beans but a few times as long as I can remember. My peeps don't add beans.

A dear friend made chili for me last night.
Turkey, little black beans, corn, onion, diced tomatoes were identifiable (probably more in there than just these items).
Mixed in some sour cream and shredded cheddar.
I enjoyed it, but ate too much (heavy stuff).
Good way to put an earthy, meaty California Cabernet down.....

I just made the best chili of my life this week.
2lbs of ground chuck
One onion
One red bell pepper
A couple of teaspoons of garlic
One can of Italian style tomatoes
One can of tomatoe sauce
5 tablespoons chili powder
Salt
One teaspoon cumin
Brown meat. Add ingredients simmer for an hour!
Add sour cream or cheese as topping if you want. It's awesome

We are talking about the person who doesn't want her food to touch right?
