I live close to the Ideal Market (Latino Grocery Store) on Sherwood Forest and have never really ventured in. I have a family staying with me due to the flood and the father told me he wanted to pick up some chickens from Ideal Market for dinner. I said cool, thinking it was standard rotisserie chicken.

What he brought home was so much better. The butterfly their chickens and cook them whole over coals and wood. Can definitely taste the marinade and smoke. They also include whole grilled onions and jalapenos.

At $9.99 a bird, they are a tad pricier, but this will be my go-to quick chicken in the future. Very flavorful and no issues with the bird being over-salted.

I like those split chickens too...have actually bought a chicken, a package of tortillas, and had a quickie picnic on the supermarket front porch seating area.

There are some tasty items in the Ideal hot lunch line. The weekend options are a bit more diverse.

I used to live next to an Ideal Supermercado when I was in Brazil. Solid market.

It had the exact same color scheme as the one on Sherwood so I'm guessing it's the same. I'm not sure if it started in Brazil or elsewhere in Latin America.

I bought beef Milanesa from the butcher section on Saturday. Made Milanesa tortas. Came out great. When it first opened, I bought octopus for ceviche. That wasn't bad either. I should go there more often, but usually not on that side of town. The produce selection isn't bad either.

I've been to one in Metairie off Airline Hwy and it is so damn good, except I don't know what a lot of stuff is or how to order so I'm always kinda winging it and feel like an idiot. Wish they could be a bit more English friendly.

Picked up one of these grilled chickens for lunch today at the Metairie Location.

Definitely the best store prepared chicken I've ever eaten. Seasoned very well with a little hear and served with roasted onions and jalapeños.

They also had rotisserie chickens for $6.99 but looked similar to other store chickens. Lady behind me was getting rotisserie chickens but then changed to the grilled once she saw what I had ordered.
