Went a few years ago and we liked Lou Malnati's for pizza, RPM for steakhouse, Quartino Ristorante for Italian.

Use the search function and look through old threads. There have been a lot of threads on Chicago recs with good information.
Also take a look at the Travel Board.

Frontera Grill. seems odd to eat Mexican food in Chicago but trust me on this.

We went in June. Pequod's pizza was great, highly recommend it. If you are looking for steak, Maple and Ash was awesome.
We also went to Volare downtown. It was a great dining experience as well.

I second Quartino. Also hit up Girl and the Goat if you can.

Per capita, it’s safer than Nola while also being cleaner and more to do. I lived there for a little over a year and felt safer walking downtown there than I do Nola.
As far as restaurants, use search function and find post from people that have lived there or look at the eater.com site

Portillo’s to have a Chicago hot dog. Chicago staple.
Also, HARRY CARAY'S ITALIAN STEAKHOUSE.

Frontera Grill.

I've been to Pequod's numerous times. I usually take out of town guests. Went there this week and the service, wait time, and pizza were all very noticeably worse compared to pre-covid times.

Here's the thing I like to tell people about Chicago dining and bars: get out of downtown.

Chicago has the second largest Mexican population of any US city. Not odd at all.
