I have a cheap cocktail shaker at the house and whenever I make cold cocktails I can not get the damn top off. Is it because it’s cheap or is this typical?

I often use a pint glass and a Mardi Gras cup in lieu of a real shaker. They don’t stick.

It's typical. Bars use a pint glass to shake for a reason.

ETA I have one of THESE ordered but the coronavirus keeps pushing back delivery.

What type of shaker do you have? Boston or Cobbler? If it's a cobbler, I normally have trouble getting the lid off if it's cold from shaking with ice, but when I use a boston shaker, I never have an issue with getting the pint glass or the smaller shaker out after giving it a good whack on the side where the two meet

Metal contracts when it gets cold.

Shaker is room temp when you add ingredients and ice. Shake it a few rimes, and the entire thing gets 30-40 degrees cooler. Metal contracts and lid gets tight.

I too always use a pint glass for this reason.

We’ve been given 3 or 4 “fancy” silver and expensive as gifts over the years. Because they’re all thin and lids tend to stick they get bent and end up looking like hammered horse shite plus the cold transfers to my hands and then my hands stick to the ice on the outside of it. This utilitarian version looks like something that I could use. Thanks for the recommendation.

I just squeeze the larger shaker tin to break the seal rather than hitting the side. Much less dramatic and much more efficient.

I just bought the Oxo shaker and so far I really like it. I was tired of leakage every time I make whiskey sours.

Yup, which is why those caps are terrible.

I use a boston shaker. A quick squeeze opens up the seal, and a strainer allows a nice pour. Sure you can use a pint glass as well, but I have never felt comfortable shaking with glass like that. I worry it will crack at some point.
