Do any of y'all use a MAPP torch for lighting your lump?
I picked one up yesterday and that thing is badass, I was up and rollin in 10-15 mins
Question is, how long do those little tanks usually last? It has quite an impressive flame so I don't see it lasting all that long.
This is the one I bought
TIA

This is what I use. Bought the one with the yellow tank, but the blue tanks are cheaper and bought 2 of those for spares.
Got my BGE before Christmas, and still haven't used up the first tank.
It does rock, though. I can get all areas lit and going in 4-5 minutes, and up to cooking temp in another 5-10 min.
In no way do I have the patience for those little fire starters.

Do you lite the middle only of a few spots?
15-20 seconds usually long enough?

Light up the back first.
Then go left to right across the coals until the front/nearest you.
Yeah, about 20 sec or so at each spot. Sometimes I'll double back and hit a previous area again just to make sure it's all gonna catch.
Handy little tool for sure. Makes you walk around your yard to look for something else to use it on! Surely there's SOMETHING that needs burning aroun here

I have the same one, but only for a few months now. I've heard that the tank can last quite a while, depending on your usage.

Bought mine at Home Depot for around $40-44. More expensive sets may have extras you don't need, maybe even a second tank.
Yellow MAPP fuel tanks are about $9-10.
Blue propane tanks are $3-4.
They both work the same for what we are using it for. But yellow MAPP fuel has an additive that puts out a hotter flame.

You found that the blue tank works just as good?

Yeah, when she asks you to help with the dishes, give that crazy-eyed look and real quick whip out the torch.

Haven't swapped tanks yet, but it's getting close.

I used to use one, but I went to the light stick things.

Really depends how much you use it and grill.
I have that one or something similar that uses propane too and I have this one. It's a weed(not that kind)burner and uses propane. It blows a broader flame and works great too. Has a LONG HANDLE WHICH IS REALLY NICE.
