Looking for a caterer for 70-100 people. Looking for more than the jambalaya/fried fish/boudin balls schtick.

Can it be done for less than 2,500 (alcohol not included) or am I dreaming? Any suggestions on menu items? Not going for black tie not going for blue jeans, something in between.

With a competent caterer, of course it can be done. As for menu items, just choose reasonable things for that budget. Pastas, salads, quality meats, etc. Find someone who will deliver results, not excuses. Get everything signed in writing (including specific portions) and you'll be fine. If you REALLY want a caterer to do a bang up job, don't pay a dime until AFTER the event. Some won't operate this way, but NONE of the screw ups will. Just my .02

thanks, we really have no idea when it comes to this stuff. Someone had told us low end was 20 a person, didn't know if that was legit.

Anyone else? What would y'all expect at a dress casual event?

Cashios in Houma is really good

They may travel to the BR area for something that's over 70 people.

is this the same Cashios that are also in Gonzales? I used Cashios from Gonzales for my wedding and the food was outstanding. The guy who runs it, Jim Cashio, is a very nice guy and will do whatever it takes to make sure everything is the way you want it. Our package was $22/person, but that was for a lot of different dishes.

It can be done with ease and probably with alcohol and everything. Call 664-6204. They are doing one for me and have great food.

Unique Cuisine is good. One thing I do with them on occasion is order several items then go pick them up and serve them myself. This is a good reasonably inexpensive way to use a caterer. We do this actually quite often. Of course, they are full service as well.

Yvette Marie Bonnano is very good and reasonable as well. I've used her on a couple of occaions and she's my mid upper level caterer now. Perfect for what you are trying to do.

Top and best in Baton Rouge is Margot Bouchand who actually owned Unigue Cuisine then sold it to Susan and Chip Strange. She is married to Lance Hayes the florist and she is by far the top of the line caterer in BR. You'll pay for it though however, if the occasion if right, it's well worth it.

Take your pick. Call them all but you need to do it in advance. Most are getting booked now for fall, football and holidays.

Then again there's Johnny's Pizza from North Louisiana, Italy. I'm sure they are better than any of the above and would certainly know how to handle business casual.

Thanks everyone on this thread for the suggestions. Anyone want to suggest things that could be on the menu?

btw Martini, I tried to get Fluer De Lis and Johnny to to a catering face-off. Something about world's colliding or the apocolypse was uttered and they both backed out...I will keep you updated if things progress.

I hear they are opening a corner location in Perkins Rowe. I've already booked us reservations, martini. Hope you're hungry.

Actually I heard they are looking at Government at St Landry.

Did you fix that tartar sauce situation? I'm looking for a fried oyster fix and don't want to have to bring my own.

Yep. I'm sure if you looked up the number to caterers you're thinking of asking, then called them say, before 4 pm tomorrow, some very nice local baton rouge people would be happy to help you out if you just told them you wanted to speak to the person in charge.
