It's okay, but there are better places around. I do also like Tacos el Jeffe in Fat City.

But that location they are in is cursed, not even Drago's burger place stayed open there long. Now that there are no bars in fat city, drunk food has no place.

I do see TigerWise was holding the good fight in that thread. He's right, it may have been the best in Kenneraire at one time when we had no options, but now that Kenner has 20+ latin restaurants, I would put Casa Garcia in the bottom five, easily.

Don Jose's is Tex Mex like them and a lot better.

The bean dip. That's all that matters.

Grew up around the corner from Casa Garcia. (Not at Chapelle, lol)

It's not very good by normal Mexican food standards. By NOLA Mexican food standards, it's one of the better options out there.

Bean dip is legit.

Fajitas are terrible.

I've even almost everything on the menu there over the years and just can't say I truly love anything.

Wife's family though loves that place so we are always there with them, and I usually get enchiladas, usually a mix of chicken and cheese.

Also, Garcia's in Covington, is owned by same family.

Haven't been to the one on the corner of Williams and Vets yet. Lot of people say it's legit. i'll say this: it's been there probably longer than anything else at that location.

Don Jose's staff is made up of a lot of ex-Casa Garcia employees...

It may be nostalgia, but I still prefer Casa Garcia. Chili Relleno's for the win.

Just wanted to bump this to report that we have the place another chance this weekend. It's gotten even worse. Both kinds of margaritas we got were bad. Fajitas were the worst I've ever had. Not sure if it was just that the beef wS of extreme low quality or was nearing experation date or what.
Enchiladas sucked. Service sucked.

Yes the bean dip was still good

sadly it's the only thing the place has going for it these days. I've noticed the food declining as well.

Los Jefes in fat city has been solid the 2 times I tried it.

I'm just throwing a shout out to Festiva Latina on Airline about a block or two west of Williams. Nobody speaks English there but they are very friendly and the place is spotless. I really like the food. I've had lunch there dozens of times and never had anything that was less than terrific.

PS I've never gone for dinner there but a friend who did said they had a Latin (duh!) band and a big crowd and it kind of freaked out his date so don't go there at night if you're xenophobic.

Paul the margaritas were crap. The sweet girly one my wife had tasted like some kind of cheap concentrate was added.
Mine was regular on the rocks and was very sour. I like just about any margarita I've ever tried so I rarely complain about them

I actually went here since my last post in the thread. We went for the bean dip. I got fajitas. They weren't bad.

They have good Queso as well.

Bean dip is good and is the best thing there.

Still middle of the road Mexican, IMO.

It's good. I have no idea what I got there. I go with my friend Mario and he rambles off in spanish and then food comes. I just smile and eat.

Went one time without him and just my SO and I didn't order the right stuff other than the carne asada.

I want to try that new Nicaraguan place next.
