We no longer have fresh gulf jumbo lump crabmeat available due to a move.

Have heard different things about canned crabmeat....from "are you kidding, hell no!" to " you will be pleasantly surprised."

Your experiences? Thanks.

I found some pretty good jumbo lump crabmeat at a Sam's in Kentucky. It probably makes no difference but the superstition in me will only buy the crabmeat with a clear lid where I can see the product. Have used a few times in corn and crab bisque

I made some tuna salad a couple of weeks back. Saw some Chicken of the Sea canned crabmeat, grabbed two cans, and mixed in with tuna salad. I couldnt taste it honestly. But I didn't get sick.

I have never had canned crabmeat. I would probable opt for imitation over canned. But I actually like some of the imitation products.

If you can find a decent seafood market, you may be able to find frozen, non-canned crabmeat. It isn't as good as fresh, but it is infinitely superior to heat-canned. Sometimes you can find the pasteurized but refrigerated canned crabmeat sold by processors in the Chesapeake Bay area...it's not as good as fresh-frozen, but still better than the little metal cans sold in the supermarket.
