I usually indirect heat and have chips in a smoker box I replace after an hour

Can I put pellets in the wood chip box and get desired result?

No reason you couldn't. Why not use chips? Do you already have the pellets on hand?

If you have Grill Grates you can throw a handful of chips in the grooves.

Get a pellet tube if you want more smoke flavor.

I ordered a little metal tube that has holes in it and use it in my gas grill. Got it on Amazon for like $15 dollars.

I cut the top off an empty 2 liter Coke bottle and use that as a funnel for filling it. The diameter is a little larger than a typical funnel.

I just lay it on the grill grate and use a little blowtorch to get the pellets lit, while the grill itself is heating up.

It's not as good as regular smoker but I was impressed with the results. I got a good smoke ring on a brisket point cut I cooked.

I've used pellets in the oven inside the house many times when weather was bad.. Keep heat low at first and make sure you have a proper ventilation system or could be trouble.

I do it. I use a 32oz tomato can with some holes drilled in it. Fill it with wood chips soaked in water. Gives me about an hour of smoke. My wife really doesnt like a heavy smoke taste so it works out well. Of course, it's not nearly as good as an offset or pellet smoker.

heat alone won't cause pellets to combust and create smoke.

I use wood chips, fill the can, light a few on fire off to the side, put them in can.
