I didn’t even know that part came out. Mine is so covered in grease and soot, it is indistinguishable from the rest of the egg. This “cleaning” thing is overrated.

Why would you want to do that? It just adds to flavor.

I did a mix of apple and cherry. Apple chunks and cherry chips. It was mainly because I only had a few left of each.

Mine broke a few years ago, but only in two spots, so I still use it.

Clogged up - talking about the fire grate? I switched the kick ash basket a few years ago and it's a big improvement IMO.

They’ll warranty it. You could probably just JB weld it though.

This. I took mine back to where I bought it and they gave me another.

Did it get wet? A lot of times when the ceramic gets wet, then drys, then heats up, it cracks

Bring it to your local authorized BGE dealer and they should swap it out at no charge

Gotcha. I did Apple and Pecan. I couldn’t find my Cherry so went with Pecan.

No. It stays under a covered patio, and I’ve never wet it. It’s just blackened with soot and maybe a little drippings, but that’s about it.

I clean mine as well from time to time. I typically do it before a brisket. I just make sure all the old debris/ash is removed and everything is spaced properly so my airflow is perfect. I don't wet anything, but I basically sweep out the bottom and rub the part down with my hands to remove any excess buildup.

People who read blackened and immediately think of race are those who are truly obsessed with race.

That’s basically what I was trying to do. The vent holes get clogged up from time to time.

Any chance your egg is exposed to the weather? At my last house, mine was left out on occasion and rained on. Someone told me then to not light it until it dried naturally b/c it could cause cracks. Thankfully I never had an issue and now mine is permanently placed under my porch.

Well, it’s under a covered patio, and it’s never been rained on directly but perhaps indirectly by rain blowing around, especially in light of the hard rains and wind we just experienced last week, so that’s solid advise. Thank you. I have a cover for it but I’ve never used it because it is under a covered patio. and I didn’t think it was necessary to do so, but I think after I replace the ring I am going to keep a cover on it just to be sure.

Much thanks

I’m a Kamado Joe guy, but it’s a common problem with both cookers. They replaced my 3-4 year old firebox free of charge. I’d think the BGE pieces are similarly guaranteed. Check your warranty before you spend money on something.

The fire ring on the one I had never broke, but the heat deflector did, so I replaced it with a cast iron one.

BGE's customer service has always been good to me. Email them and see what they say...have your serial number handy.

Their rep advised me to only wash the ceramics when absolutely necessary, and let the ceramics dry for several days before using them. If there are any micro fractures, moisture will create steam when heated and cause the ceramic to bust...not saying this is what happened, just advise.
