Are they worth the money? Or would building a smoker be the way to go?
I just make small briskets, some pork, nothing fancy.

If your looking to smoke meats then the microwave is not for you. There is no smoky flavor given to the meat, the coals and their flavor are seperated from the meat. You'd be best off buying a small smoker like the Weber models.
The microwave does a few things really well, it cooks whole hogs well in larger models. In smaller models I cook chickens, turkeys, pork shoulders, rib roasts, and the like.

Two totally diff methods of cooking. The CM works better for large items like a whole Pig and is a hot fast cooking method with no smoke. A Smoker is a low slow method with smoke.................I find a need for both, however, the CM will not be used near as much.

How about an orion cooker (marketed as the oil-less turkey fryer) for roasting things, and a Weber Smokey Mountain for smoking?

The Cajun Microwave is just a charcoal/wood fired oven. Its not a smoker at all. They are good for cooking food when there is no power or gas, or cooking large amounts of food or large items that you can't fit in a regular oven.
I bet you could accomplish the same thing with that "oil less turkery fryer" for small items.

old schooler cajun microwaves = dig a hole in the ground and put a lid with coals on top of it ...same thing

It was originally called a Caja China.
It's ideal if you want to roast a large pig outdoors, although the alternative is to make a Cuban-style grill in your backyard.

We have the cinder block one set up at our camp. It works like a champ.

no but looks similar to the ones you posted except we put the hog on the second layer of blocks from the top and cover the top with tin- the fire is below in a sectioned off part that just allows the heat(indirect) and smoke to cook the meat.

CM is for large quanity or whole, and slow and low cooking (slow cook, low heat) if you like to hang out and drink beers and your food falling of the bone the CM is the real deal. i love doing drunk chickens in mine!!
