2. Because we're trying to nickel and dime you.

I wouldn't have tried to justify my pricing by saying "we're a family owned business." Why should that matter? Just say "that will be .90 extra." Then it's up to you to either pay it or leave.
I haven't been there too many times, but I have noticed they kind of go out of their way to let you know they aren't a "fast food" restaurant and that even though they have a drive-thru, don't expect it to be quick.
That's fine if you aren't a fast food joint. But from every outward appearance it looks like you are

My comprehension is fine. Your trying to cheap their system by splitting a $20.99 20 pc box instead of paying for 2 $10.99 10 pc boxes. Shame on them for asking for the difference!
When I managed restaurants, ladies wouldn't order drinks, but would ask for extra lemons and sugar packets for their complimentary water to make homemade lemonade. We shut that down by charging them for lemonade!
