Brasas Peru: first Peruvian restaurant in BR

Off perkins across from the Albertsons near Essen. Nothing has been able to survive there but hopefully this place sticks. My first time trying Peruvian food and it was delicious. Will definitely be back

Why write a well thought out and comprehensive review when so many on the board will just bash you for it?

It will be tough for a restaurant to make it at that location regardless of how good the food is. It’s kind of tucked away and is a hard intersection to get out of. More importantly, two people were murdered there when it was Calendars.
I won’t eat there because that’s what would come to mind while dinning. The same thing happened at TJ Ribs on Acadian and the Olive Garden on Siegen Lane. I just couldn’t enjoy my meal, but I do hope they all do well.

I was obviously impressed and plan to return soon. It is a top notch mom and pop authentic Peruvian food place on another elevated level than most ethnic places. I don’t even know if New Orleans has a Peruvian place.
Location really sucks during lunchtime, but at night you can get in and out of there easily. No traffic at that intersection after 6 PM.

We went a couple Sundays ago for a mid afternoon snack. It was pretty packed. We tried the Papa Rellena and the Papa a la Huancaina appetizers (pic of menu in linked review above). Both were fantastic. They were out of empanadas at the time unfortunately. Can't wait to go back.

There’s at least one in New Orleans and it’s great. Peruvian food is awesome.
