Bringing it as a thank you for freinds letting me stay at their house. What do yall recommend? I typically just drink dewars.

Not exactly traditional scotch, but I would bring a bottle of Suntory Toki.

Both right around $50 and great.

Do they drink bourbon? You can get a better bourbon for under 50 than you can scotch. More options in my opinion.

And the Toki is good. Has some scotch characteristics too.

At what price point does scotch start getting decent?

I don't think its necessarily a dollar value. Scotch is so subjective to the persons taste. Its all over the board.

Bourbon isn't really. Yes there are differences from bourbon to bourbon but they're all fairly similar.

If this was even remotely true you wouldn’t have a bunch of TD “400 page bourbon thread” drunks at your raffle

I'm a Talisker fan, but that is a little over your budget.

Laphroig 10 is another of favorite that is under $50.

For a cheap blend, "Black Bottle" is good. I prefer the older recipe (before they changed bottles) because it had a stronger peat taste.

$40+

Scotch is aged longer than bourbon thus runs a higher price.

You can usually find Laphroaig 10 for under that. You're welcome.

if someone was letting me stay at their house, I wouldn't get a $50 bottle of scotch, since the whisky is pretty mediocre at best at that price point. I'd go ahead and spend $99 and get a bottle of Lagavulin 16. But I'm guessing that if you drink Dewars, Lagavulin might be a little much.

EDIT: Actually, disregard the above. I did a price check and you should be able to get a Balvenie 12 for $50-$55. That would be a very fine bottle to give someone as a gift, and I think the flavor is mild enough that most anyone who drinks Scotch would probably enjoy it.

I'm comparing it to Scotch. Compared to Scotch, bourbon has very little variation in my opinion
