Now that the restaurants have opened up a little, I can't think of a single place I want to go to. All of the ethnic restaurants, Asian, Tex-Mex, Middle Eastern have the same menus as each other, they might as well be chains. I have zero interest in fried anything, I hope to never darken the door of a batter barn again.

Enlighten me, who is doing something different? Without going to a high end place, who doesn't have the same stuff as everyone in town?

Not really, ok, price is no object, Ruffino's, Ruth's Chris, Mansur's, Beausoleil, where's the innovation? I've been to everyone of them in the last year.

I have had some really nice meals lately at Cocha, Nino’s, Zorbas, French Market Bistro, Mansurs, Elsie’s and Bin 77.

These are all good, casual places and most of them have actually improved their game since the lock down.

What is there not to like?

Also, Roberto’s is a solid option as well.

Well since I don't want to cook all the things (like pad thai, sushi, pho, homemade spaghetti sauce, fajitas and queso, etc) at home. I don't care if 5 restaurants all serve homemade tortillas, I still want them without having to cook them myself.

Surely not “all” of the Asian restaurants have the same menu: Indian and Viet aren’t exactly congruent. Maybe you need to be more adventurous in your ordering? I’m sure you can find pupusas, mole, and Cuban food and not just Tex Mex and taquerias.

ETA if you were in NO, I’d tell you to go check out Wishing Town bakery for soup dumplings, egg custard tarts and mille crepes cakes.

also try Omi or Lee's Asian Fusion for non traditional Chinese.

Or zorbas or Cafe Phoenicia for the lamb (not shwarma or gyros)

I also like Flambee Cafe for inexpensive dinners and have heard good things about the ramen place at Perkins Rowe.

It's not the cheapest place, but Eliza on Jefferson Hwy is really good. They change up their menu pretty much, and try to do a few different things without being totally weird.
