I boil my crabs for 12 minutes. Soak 20-30. I usually try a claw around 20 minutes.

12 minutes from the first puff of steam from under the lid, or 12 from when you drop them?

My method, which I am certain will be criticized.
I season water, boil potatoes, garlic, citrus, etc and fire up burner to cook.
When potatoes are done I turn fire almost off and take out basket. Add cold crabs to basket, put basket with crabs into steaming water.
Turn fire back on full blast, when rolling I do 2 minutes.
This process of fire back up to full blast through the 2 minute roll is always at or near 12 minutes.
I also never have a problem with the claws blasting off. I personally believe it's because I am not dropping into a rolling boil and I also make sure my crabs are always cold.
ETA: to answer your question, 12 minutes after I drop them.

You cant put hot crabs in hot water or they will drop their claws.

eggs (if female) are some of the tastiest parts of a blue crab
The eggs are on the inside of the crab at some point? In Florida, you aren't allowed to keep females with eggs under the apron?
I'm not opposed to sucking the fat at all. Just saying this is the main way I've seen it done.

Eggs are in the crabs until the ready to lay. You can not keep sponge crabs in Louisiana, you can keep females with eggs, but they cant be exposed.

get water to rolling boil, drop in crabs and cook for 12 minutes, turn off the fire and lift crabs out of water for 5 minutes (to let water cool down enough to stop the cooking process) then drop crabs back in the still hot water for 30-45 minutes depending on how full they are because very full crabs need a longer soak.
i just lift the basket and tilt it at 45 angle on top of pot after cooking so its easier, then you just drop it back in to soak

Ice cools down the water quick for soaking and 8lb of ice won't dilute 15 gallons of seasoned water.
