What are you using them for? If for stuffing, just peel the shrimp before boiling, remove the vein from the tail, put just enough water to cover the shrimp and add your seasoning until you like the taste---usually pretty hot and salty.

Bring the water to a boil, drop the shrimp in and boil for a minute or so, shut off the fire and let them soak until they are done to your liking. They will soak up the seasoning but remain firm is when I take them out to drain.

This is when you just have to be a cook and not follow a recipe. Pour some crab boil in a pot, as much as you think looks right. Boil them and let them soak. Taste them and pull them when you think they are good. Not everything has to be measured, use your eye and learn from experience.

Yeah, season the crap out of the water. Bring to boil, boil whatever fixins you may have until they are done. Add shrimp and bring back to a boil. You won't have to boil them long. No more than a minute or two. Then cut the fire and get the water cool, either with frozen corn or ice.

One thing to consider....how big are the shrimp.....obvi big ones should cook a bit longer than small ones. Watch for the shell on the curve of the “back” to separate from the flesh, it leaves a bit of a window, try to stop the cooking (remove from hot water, dump into a bowl with ice) just at that point.

4 qt. Pot about half full of water with about 1/4-1/3 cup of Old Bay, several good shakes of lemon pepper, bring to a rolling boil then add a TBSP. of Zatarains liquid shrimp/crab boil right before putting in the shrimp. (Don't add the liquid Zat's until ready to put the shrimp in or it boils off the aromatics).
When they start to float, they are done, don't try to time it, as cook time is size dependent. Dump into a collander of ice and dump ice on top immediately, then run cold water over it for a minute to stop the cooking process.
Biggest thing is don't overcook them or they are like chewing on rubber.

I just scale down my crawfish seasoning recipe based on the amount of water used. Shrimp don’t need to soak as long so taste test one after 5-10 min.

For me. Them being perfectly cooked is more important than seasoning. Shrimp don’t tend to soak up spices as easily and you run the risk of overcooking them which some people don’t mind bc they are getting a better soak..

I season usually with old bay and shrimp boil and maybe some Cajun season/crawfish seasoning if I happen to have any.. Bring to rolling boil and dump in until they float and the coloring is correct... not long depending on size.. remove and dump in ice water to shock them and kill heat. I move quickly to a bowl or colander They are usually still very warm and ready to peel and eat.

De-head the shrimp. Set steaming basket up. Drop shrimp in an douse with chackbay. Steam until color changes, then eat.

It much easier to get consistent pealing with steaming vs boiling.

I find this makes them easier to peel, also. Usually.

This. Just get a pot that could fit a pound of shrimp and a couple gallons of water, add your crab boil, lemon juice, and maybe a little salt. You can always cook 1 single shrimp and let it sit and then taste that one and adjust seasoning from there on what you think.

yeah dont do this. Since you specifically said you wanted boiled shrimp, the best advice I have besides my post above is to not change to a cooking method you didnt ask for.

boiled about 4 pounds on the stove last night...just dropped one of the small bags of powdered boil mix...brought it to a boil...dropped in my shrimp...waited for water to boil again and then let it boil for about 1-2 minutes...turned off burner, let sit for about 5 min then dumped some ice in pot to cool it down...let it sit for another 5 min...drained water and enjoyed...good luck!
