Looking to take my son Thursday to get some. He’s been craving and I don’t want to boil a whole sack.

If you don’t mind picking them up and eating at home, Schaefer’s and Capt’n SIDS in Bucktown have been boiling for three weeks or so.
I saw some at Harbor Seafood last week while we were eating there.

The Galley or Deanies probably will have them as well, but not sure with this colder weather

we always ordered and picked up from Dennis' Seafood
IMO, the crawfish were always perfect

Schaefer’s in Bucktown is the best

They’re already boiling them

But paying big bucks for crawfish in December when they’re small isn’t a good idea

Dennis' if you want to pick up and take out. I'm sure most of the places in Bucktown will also have them available for take out.

Smitty's on W Esplanade if you want to sit at the restaurant.

Man... what are pricing and sizes right now?

OP - tell your son he needs to wait a couple of months. He will learn an important lesson that great things only come certain times of the year!

They were $6.99 a pound when I got them. A little bigger than I expected.

Had a kid home from college that I decided to surprise with them, but I only got four pounds

$6.99+ per pound boiled and I'd imagine medium at best. I was trying to get a live sack for Christmas Day, but nobody could really give me a definitive answer on availability or price. So, I'm doing shrimp instead...which are also pretty expensive right now ($6.75 for 10/15s).

Dennis has the best flavor to me.

I had no idea you could get boiled crawfish this early!

I also like medium size and bright orange/ red early in the season

What do they look like now?

I've bought boiled crawfish in LAF during the first week of December several times. Prices were higher than giraffe puzzy.

Size wise, medium at best. I boiled Christmas Day last year. We enjoyed them but they were not very big. I don't like them huge bc they get hard but they were still a little small for my liking last year at this time. I'm going to a few places this week to check on size. I'm craving them.

Yeah, but with crawfish I know I can tear up between 7-8 lbs. with the sides in a sitting. Not going to do that with shrimp and I'd be hard pressed to finish 2 lbs. with sides.

Lots more meat per lb. with shrimp.

Absolutely. 30-40 lb sack of crawfish feeds 7 of us (not everyone eats a ton) and would cost at least $200 before adding in seasoning and fixings. I'll do 20 lbs of shrimp instead and cut the cost at least in half. I just prefer crawfish for ease of eating, but it's kinda pushing it this early due to size and cost.

Back to the OP, Rouse's had boiled crawfish today at what looked like about $6/lb (I didn't pay close attention), for take out obviously. I did get some brussel sprouts out of their boil to go with a steak for tonight.
