Hate to give Tx credit, but they are defnitely leading the charge with beer related leglislation lately.
...or they were just incredibly behind
LA breweries have been able to sell beer for customers to take home for awhile

will be cool to have more brewpubs similar to what you find in other cities now available in Texas. hopefully this passes.

the hell you say, we are trying to catch up
and to the Jester King question, it would allow them to make more beer, but no telling if they would try to do so

yes, and meanwhile I can't stop at a LA brewery while on a family road trip, or I have to leave my daughter in the vehicle
on the other hand, she has a great time at Jester King

We need a spinoff thread to rank each state's beer laws. SC > LA > TX

I conducted a blind state beer law competition at my house with some maven lawyers last week. they were blindfolded and could only smell the laws and taste them...here is the results:
1. SC
2. TX
3. LA
1. SC
2. TX
3. LA

At this point they're more interested in trying random shite and traveling the world to do collabs.

anyone tried their beer made from hay?

kids can go into breweries in Texas regardless of the type.
oddly enough, you don't have to sell food to be a brewpub. I still haven't figured that one out

Didn't read he link, but what is the logic behind these stupid laws, anyway? Do they date back to the "blue laws" and the preachers just wanted to make it difficult for people to buy alcohol? Or are the distributors/BMC behind them?
ETA: Minors are not allowed in breweries or taprooms that don't sell food in Oregon, for what it's worth. Probably 1/2 the taprooms I frequent don't sell food on premise. The vast majority of the breweries sell food. Notable exceptions are The Commons and Upright.
As far as taprooms go, the more mavenly they are, the less likely they are to sell food. At the same time, they all allow you to bring your own food in, and there are some pretty damn good food joints that make a living off catering to people drinking in taprooms.
Oregon has some dumb regulations, but compared to most states, it's Utopia.

OK, maybe you are both right. I've just read a lot about beer laws in the Tx news
Posted on 3/13/15 at 11:31 am to Jax-Tiger
these days is is all about
if breweries can start self distribution it would cripple the huge distribution companies here. They know it, and dump piles of money into lobbying against these changes and campaign contributions.

Yea, I can't blame them.
Though, when they gained brew pub status, they planned to always have at least one of their fruited sours on tap at the brewery. That only lasted a few months and the production of those sours kept/keeps getting pushed back due to those other endeavors.
