Not looking for steakhouses. I'm looking for popular/new lunch restaurants, or old. No blue plates. I like all foods. Someone told me about The Little Donkey. That looks good. Just trying to find some reputable eatery's.

Little Donkey is kinda meh. El Barrio is much better for Mexican.
Any particualr part of town? Saw's in Crestline is a great spot, albeit a little of the way.

Mtn Brook, Homewood, B'ham. Anywhere around B'ham. Fine if it's out of the way a bit.

Any of the Saw's locations, El Barrio, Melt, Hattie B's, Shiki.

This. Don't listen to whoever suggested Little Donkey. El Barrio is probably my favorite bang for your buck restaurant in Bham. Chorizo queso and the chorizo meatloaf are both fantastic.
-As Spleen said, Saw's Juke Joint is really good.
-Johnny's Restaurant (Meat & 3) is really good in Homewood
-Pizitz Food Hall has some decent options. Eli's Jerusalem Grill is my favorite there.
- Carrigan's or Paramount have some decent lunch deals IIRC
- Davenport's Pizza in Mtn brook village or Brick & Tin are both solid options if you're in that area
-Melt or Fancy's on 5th or both pretty good in Avondale area

Brät Brot is a new (within a couple months old) spot in Lakeview that is a German beirgarten. Really cool spot and good food

Okay, here's my list of suggestions.
1. Saw's Juke Joint - BBQ and such. Pork n Greens is one of my favorite dishes in town. Cheese grits, topped with greens, pulled pork, bbq sauce and fried onion strings. It sounds odd, but it works and is delicious. Smoked Wings are also really good here.
2. El Barrio - really good Mexican downtown.
3. Avondale Common House - newish place in Avondale. Sandwiches and such. Kinda pricey for lunch, but good.
4. Yo Mama's - also downtown close to El Barrio. Comfort food with really good fried wings. The daily specials are also good.
5. Trattoria Centrale - Italian cafe downtown.

This clears things up a bit. I've eaten at Melt. It was good.

Yes. I don't really like meatloaf, but this is amazing.

It is awesome. It sucks because their barbacoa quesadilla is really good, but I never get it because of the meatloaf. They used to have a pork chile verde dish that was hands down the best thing on their menu, but discontinued it after about 10 months on the menu.

Bunch of really good options honestly. Depends on what you're in the mood for.
Saw's is a good BBQ place with three different locations around town. Pork n Greens or the wings are great.
I really like the Olive Branch for Mediterranean food. They have the best falafels in Birmingham and the mint sweet tea is clutch.
Surin is great if you like Thai food. Their chicken massaman is awesome.
Burger? Foodbar in Cahaba Heights or the Golden Rule on Hwy 31 in Hoover. Best two burgers in town.
Sandwich? The Diplomat Deli on Hwy 31 in Vestavia.
Pizza? My favorite is Chicago style, so I'll go with Tortuga's. I think the Hwy 150 location is best, but the one right behind Good People Brewing wins on location.
New York style pizza? Davenports in Mnt Brook is good.
Bham has a little something for everybody now.

Point of order: there is now a fourth "mini-Saw's" in the old Fat Sam's location. Kinda hidden behind UAB on 11th Ave between Glen Iris and UAB Highlands Hospital. Best plate for me is the chicken sandwich with that amazing white BBQ sauce. Just the sandwich is a lot of food, which goes well with lots of beer.
ETA: Great list, Aubie.

Yea the sweet tea fried chicken sammich is awesome. They serve it at most of the locations. So good.
Aubie , talking burgers, I’d still put the Saw’s burger up with any of them right now. I wasn’t a huge fan of foodbar, but the golden rule burger is great.

Spleen has good reccs. My thoughts.
I agree with:
Saw’s - any of the locations but not a fan of their ribs.
Johnny's Restaurant - maybe my favorite
Pizitz Food Hall - I like pretty much all of the stalls.
Carrigan's
Paramount - my go to downtown spot if I’m having a beer or three with lunch.
Diplomat Deli
Brät Brot
Trattoria
El Barrio
Fancy's
Not as big a fan of these places that have been mentioned:
Little Donkey (really at all, avoid)
Melt (ok but nothing special)
Shiki
Avondale Common House
Any of the pizza places (Dave’s would be my go to for lunch but they are hit or miss on the buffet).
Not sure how I feel about Hattie B's. Eugene’s is legit.
Places that haven’t been mentioned:
The Garage
Mr Ps - this is where you should go tomorrow if you’ve never been.
Eagles Nest
Saigon Noodle House
Pho Que
Taj India buffet
Sammy’s by the airport - one of best burgers in town.
Blue Pacific - if you like Thai, Surin is fine and probably more convenient. But BP is better.
Chez Fon Fon - not an everyday place but for something special and great burger.
Baby Bottega - nicer place but great food.
Miami Cafe - mofungo is legit.

Haven't had the burger at Saw's. I finally made it down to Chez Fon Fon and had their burger that everyone raises hell about. Meh. Foodbar is 10x better IMO. The burnt crispy cheese on top sends it over the edge for me. The Golden Rule on 31 with a jumbo burger, extra crispy fries, and a large sweet tea dominates.
Did anyone mention the Paramount? The grilled cheese down there is crazy if you want a different spin on that.
Posted on 7/6/18 at 8:27 am to Aubie Spr96
Everybody goes to Milo's.

Paramount's food is just okay to me, and their beer list every time I've been has been kinda random. It's a cool place, and the food isn't horrible, but it's not worth a stop IMO.
I've only had the Saw's burger from their food truck. It was good, but nothing special. Sammy's is still my favorite burger in town. Soho Social also has a really good burger.

This. Easily best in town. I just avoid telling people to go there if they aren't with me because I don't want to be responsible for them going there.... for...reasons
I like Paramount's wings. That is usually what I get when i'm there.

I'll just agree to disagree on fonfon vs foodbar. Golden Rule is awesome though. Another is the Hamburger Heaven jumbo burger. It isn't a nice burger, but it is very tasty. Considering i'd be paying pretty much the same as I would at McDonald's, it is an awesome burger.
