Best Get Your Mom and Dim Sum (popup)

Excellent flavors, nice balance.

Dumplings

Kung Pao Noodles

Worst - Frey's. We went late so maybe that had something to do with it. But nothing was particularly good.

Best - The Dinner in Nashville. I tasted everything my family ordered, and it was all excellent.

Worst - Smokin Aces BBQ in Denham Springs. I didn’t think a single thing I tasted was good, and I tasted everything my family ordered.

Worst - Shocked to say it but Commanders Palace. From beginning to end - the whole this was way off. Had to wait over 45 minutes after reservation time for table and we’re not allowed to grab drinks while we waited. Service was extremely slow and not very good (delivered wrong plates to wrong people multiple times). Main course was not edible do to amount of salt on the dish. I know staffing is a huge issue but I hopefully they get it back going soon as it’s one of my favorite places in the city to eat.

A lot there had been sort of ‘off’ even before covid. I can’t imagine what it’s like now.

Last visit to Coquette a few weeks ago was very subpar as well. Underwhelmed probably doesn't describe it enough.

Chow Yum Phat. Been there a few times over the past couple months, and it's quickly become one of our favorite date spots. Also when I visited Tampa recently I ate at a place called Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish which I really enjoyed.

Worst
Jollibee. In case you're unfamiliar, it's a Filipino fast food chain that has spread to the U.S. I had heard a lot of good things but it was a total disappointment.

Granny's Tacos is absolutely incredible. I'd eat there every day if I could.

Best: Bar Marilou. Perfect place to get a bite to eat and a cocktail when you just want some small plates. The Pommes Marilou was delicious, as was the fry bread with honeycomb. The burger looked great though I didn’t get it, and the caviar was fresh and delicious.

Worst: Steakhouse at Harrahs. Had a $100 comp expiring at the end of the month so the hand was forced. It has taken such a steep dive off a cliff since it was Besh Steak it is hard to fathom. The bar used to be a great place to eat and drink and they don’t do food service there anymore. All the decent bourbon is gone. The wine selection is half of what it used to be. No tablecloths, cold bread out of a bag of rolls from Sam’s club. Entrees came before our drinks. There was a man wearing a wife beater at the table next to us. Someone talking on speakerphone on the other side. No bussers or food runners or anyone to refill water- the waiter had to do it all himself. Will never step foot in there again and I’m probably done with Harrahs in general at this point based on the condition of the hotel also. It’s a shame.

Best Recently : Teds Cafe Escondido Edmond OK

Worst: Heart Attack Grill LV .... the nurses are hot but that is the nastiest tasting hamburger meat I have ever tasted.

If the choice was eat one of their burgers or lick a dogs arse I would choose the dog.

I had a burger at the Heart Attack grill a few years ago. The burger was good but the fries sucked.

Vestal, IMO it's the best restaurant in Lafayette. Their small plates and fish dishes stand out (crab spaghetti and whole fish are the best IMO).

Worst
Probably catering at a wedding that I went to in New Orleans, I'm not even sure who actually catered the event but it just wasn't good. This is highlighted by the fact that New Orleans is my favorite food city and I had to skip out on a dinner that would've undoubtedly been very good. Other than that, I can't really think of a restaurant that I've been recently that was a let down, maybe Ruth's Chris here in Lafayette. The food was okay, but the clientele left much to be desired. I have no reason to go back there.

Best: The Nash in downtown Houston. Had never heard of it and only had 80 online reviews, but was close to the hotel. Cocktail and appetizer stole the show. A great Manhattan with TX whiskey, and an amazing Korean pork belly app served with kimchi, cucumbers, sliced pears, and bao buns. It was awesome. Dinner was good too, but the app was memorable.

Worst: Fu**ing Cracker Barrel. 70 minute wait on a to go order of dumplings and meatloaf and they were still only lukewarm. Just left me hanging in the store area until I went Karen on them and asked for the manager. He blamed the delivery apps, which I'm sure play a part, but don't just leave me waiting without communicating.

Best - Andros Taverna in Chicago (Logan Square). Modern Greek menu and lively atmosphere. Been a couple times now. Heading to Rose Mary next week, so I think my answer could change.

Worst - Gaslight in Chicago (Lincoln Park). It's a solid enough bar, but I had only been for beers. Wasn't expecting much with food, but the boneless wings were terrible.

Best - Louisiana Lagniappe; the poisson en papillote is always a delight

Worst - Ruffino's; pretty sure they threw a slice of Sargento cheese on my veal parm

There was a guy seated near us wearing sunglasses, a bedazzled shirt, and jeans with holes all over the front of them. Not to mention the grill that was in his mouth.

A few others dressed like strippers. It just wasn't my scene
