When i was drinking i always thought El Mayo made a very good and reasonably priced Blanco. Easy sipper and mixed into cocktails well.

I bought the don julio resposado above just to see how it fared against the skelly resposado and I think the skelly is at least as good to my taste buds and half the price.

huge fan of the skelly it makes a hell of a paloma.

My whiskey club will be sampling tequilas at this month’s meeting and I’m a tequila neophyte. Reading this thread has given me lots of great choices for our selections. I would like to keep what we sample consistent (all anejo, or all reposado) for comparison’s sake. So my question is, which would y’all suggest for a group that gravitates to bourbon and scotch with a few rum drinkers? From reading about the aging process and characteristics of each, I would guess anejo,

Blanco has no age, reposado is aged 6 months to 1 year, anejo is aged 1 year to 3 years, extra anejo is aged 3 years plus. The extra anejo will fit closest to bourbon drinkers but they can get expensive and hard to find pretty quick.

Gracias amigo. I’ve got a budget of around $300 for 4 bottles, or roughly $75 each. Are 4 good anejos doable for that? I’ve got no idea on the cost of tequilas since I’ve not paid any attention to them before, but going through this thread I’m going to try to pick 4 of the following: El Tesoro, Fortaleza, Ocho, Tapatio, Lalo, Fon Abraham, El Tequilino, La Gritona, Cimarron, Siete Leguas, Leyenda, Paladar, 123 organic.

It's kind of fun to use the tool over at Tequila Matchmaker to find out what other brands are made at your tequila of choice's distillery. One of the searches is based off the NOM (Normas Oficial Mexicana). Often I can find a cheaper alternative to the expensive stuff that tastes pretty darn good.

Where can I get some Forteleza in Nola? I wanna try a bottle but it sounds like it’s become the Blantons of tequila.

Forteleza is in really short supply right now, very limited amounts is ending up on liquor store shelves, most of the stock for Louisiana is ending up in restaurant and bars

Seems like it’s turned into the blantons of tequila. I was happy to complete across a bottle of blanco. I hope to get an anejo one of these days. I really want to try that single barrel repo.

Total Wine in Lafayette has Fortaleza. But yeah it's in low supply right now - glad I got some when I did.

Liquor rep in Arkansas here. Cincoro (Jordan and some other nba owners) anjeo is by far the best I’ve ever had but it is pricey. We just got Cierto and I tried their extra Anjeo last night (250-300 retail) and was disappointed. A great under 70 bucks option is Herradura Ultra Anjeo, it is fantastic.

I had a pour of the añejo there last week. Was great, as was the food. You’ve got it going on over there.
