it's not in baton rouge, but it's steak night at raxx in erwinville (20 mins west of b.r. on 190) tonight. not the greatest atmosphere but one of the tastiest steaks I've ever had and only $19.95.

Ruth's and Flemings top tier

I have had great steaks at Ruffinos and Doe's

Don't care for Sullivans or Stroube's steak
I will agree with this.

I know Doe's gets a lot of hate on here, but I will share a story about good service from a several years back:

Buddy and I just want some steak that's not too expensive so we hit Doe's and order a big arse steak (I think 2 or 3 lbs) I don't exactly remember which one but it was one of their cheaper cuts. They will cook different temps when you order certain amount. I got medium rare and he asked for medium.

My portion came out fine but his came out overcooked. We let the waiter know and the waiter took it back to replace it. Within a minute the manager (or some other authority figure) came right to our table and apologized profusely and gave us a filet on the house and they brought out his steak cooked properly when it was ready. Memory's a little fuzzy but I think they took something off the tab as well.--Great job by them and we really appreciated how they made it right.

Ruth's Chris is the definition of average high end steak place. Baton Rouge has much better choices

I enjoyed Flemings the one time I went. I got the Tomahawk cut with some Mac and cheese. They had bread with some very good dipping sauces of some sort. I can't remember what but it was delicious

I think that is everyone's problem with Sullivans. I find the environment unpleasant as well

Atmosphere, wine list and great service is the reason for the prices. You have to admit, they do a great job with service over there.

Are you talking about the restaurant or the bar area?

A good wine list doesnt mean you get to overcharge for your food.

The service at Ruths is better.

I guess. I still dont think some of those qualities, that other restaurants also have, support the inflated prices of the cuts of steak.

It's not the best, but they do serve a center cut filet, which can't always be said at higher end restaurants.

And it's always consistently good too ...

Sullivan's service is phenomenal. Leo and his team do a wonderful job of making everyone feel important when dining at his restaurant.

The biggest knock is the prime prices for choice meat. I personally don't mind it because even with a choice steak (and especially for a filet - can't tell a difference), the quality product that they put out is great. Plus they have better sides, in my opinion, than Ruth's Chris.
