As your first responder said, a Reuben. There is just something about what could be called the incongrous flavors and textures that are involved in its nature. The caraway seed of the rye bread, the tang of the boiled corned beef with its loverly fat cap intact, Russian(1000 island) dressing, gooey swiss cheese, and kraut all grilled for a minute or so. YUMMY.

A couple of days ago, I tried a new sandwich at Pappas BBQ in Houston. It's called the Sweet Caroline.

It's a pulled smoked pork sandwich. Unlike other pulled pork sandwiches, you can actually see the smoke ring on some of the pork shreds. You can see and taste that the cut of pork had a nice bark on it too. I think it comes on a kaiser roll, but I selected the jalapeno cheese bread instead. The sauce seems to be a honey mustard bbq sauce. It was absolutely among the best sandwiches I have ever had.

Some additional appeal came from some unintended humor. The name Sweet Caroline is obviously a dual reference - carolina bbq with a sweet sauce, and of course a Neil Diamond song. That's clearly not the funny part. The funny part is that Neil Diamond is Jewish. Keeping it Kosher generally requires a good Jew to stay away from pork. Jewish Neil Diamond fans who are more likely to be offended will miss out on a damn fine sandwich.

That sounds interesting. They make a sandwich out of it? What kind of bread is it served on?

Sounds great. And before I got to your choice of bread I was already thinking foccacia would be perfect.

The sandwich I had yesterday from Mais Arepas ranks pretty high up there. Dunno if it's #1 though.

Baloney on 2 plain pieces of white bread after doing my check out dive in Panama City...That sandwich a diet coke and a cigarette afterwards were like heaven...Gave up the nasty cigs over 10 years ago. Still love baloney.

One of my favorite "non po-boy's" is the Ragin cajun pork sandwich at Maxwell's Mkt.

Pork, grilled onions, jalapenos, swiss and creole mustard. It will clear your sinus' but good!

This thread reminds me of a thread from a while ago.... Has a lot of pics too

Best Sandwich you have ever had

ETA: excluding poboys, my favorite sandwich would be a California Connection from Central Market in Houston.
