I live in Austin and have great BBQ all the time.

Maybe it's just a nostalgic thing, but I love TJ's baby back ribs, I don't care if they're boiled and then microwaved. Give me a full rack, squirt both the spicy and mild BBQ sauces down the middle of them, and I'll go to town on those things.

Is the Ronnie's ribs place on jones creek by hi nabor still open? I used to hear about it but not recently. The sign is still there but I've looked for the actual restaurant and never found it

Honestly....try the little BBQ place inside whole foods. I find the ribs vary a little bit depending the guy who's working that day but they're a pretty good option.

Poli, you don't like boiled meat?

Not boiled, steamed.

They cover the ribs and add some liquid smoke. Cook in the oven for a few hours and then wrap in foil and chill until they need to finish over a "real" fire. Works good to get them tender.

I remember people, on this board, used to rave about the Folse smokehouse thing in the shell on Highland. They used the exact same method, TJ could have sued on copyright infringement.

No longer open and they might have been the best in BR. Sonny's does a decent job, and yes the CCLA shell station is good as well

You are exactly correct in how they cook them but this is the f&d board where old made up shite lasts a long long time.

And I never argued that the ribs would win some international competition, just that I found them to be tasty and satisfying for a rib craving.

I enjoy the TJ babybacks. I don't care how they cook them. Ronnie's was awesome but he closed down. Sonnys is garbage BBQ to me. I will go try Wayne's this weekend.

Has anyone had them at Firehouse?

its true, I don't get it either, how hard is it to duplicate descent BBQ?

I've had better BBQ at some of the Tailgates during the fall made by drunk fans slurring "tigah bait"

bc most of the private sector restaurant owners in BR are from the older generation and they just don't get it, they're too stuck in their ways, once some of us 30 somethings and such get into our 40s and 50s i'd be willing to bet you'll see a change of the locally privately owned places change to suit things like this

A friend had told me about J. Alexander's ribs the other day and I tried them and they were excellent. They fell off the bone easier than TJs they were great. I had no idea they were so good there. Some of if not the best in town believe it or not.

Agreed. I eat there way too much because it's close to my office.
