Look, I know the owners of Del Porto pretty well and that Black Lives Matter stuff was many many years ago. What I do know is that Tori and Dave are very good people and she has not run her mouth in the last four or so years. Tori has also donated food for a number of worthy causes, and she has donated food out of the goodness of her heart to my family members. I would give her a break and go eat some dynamite food.

Covington has a great food scene and most of the restaurants are close to each other. Our personal rotation is 90% Aki, Del Porto, and Gallagher's. We've had a few new restaurants open over the past several months though.

Limited to Covington:

You've been, but Gallagher's is a good classic steakhouse vibe. The bar area is cool too. Food is good but heavy. Steaks are generally good and there is good seafood throughout the menu.

Del Porto is consistently excellent food. People say it's Italian, but it's Italian with a south Louisiana flair. If somewhat upscale seafood is what you're looking for, check it out. I don't know that I've ever had a bad meal there. As another poster said, the owners also own the Greyhound. I prefer Del Porto, but Greyhound is good too.

Valencia is good Spanish food, though I agree with another poster about it being loud inside. Marcello's can also be good, but the service is inconsistent. Neither of those fit your seafood/southern dish bill.

Seiler Bar (next to Taproom) also fits the relatively upscale southern/seafood bill.

If you like sushi, you owe it to yourself to go to Aki. It is the best sushi I've had in my life. If you go on a weekend, try to get a reservation. I normally tell people that if you're looking for the food, go to Aki. If you're looking for the vibe, go to Bon Sake. Bon Sake is decent, but expensive and the portions are small.

The Hampshire is new, expensive, and the service has been bad both times we've been. It is still new though so TBD. Same owner as Pardo's in Mandeville. To this point, I find Pardo's to be much better.

Feliciana just opened a week ago but I've heard good things from a couple of people that have been.

Gloriette is not good and absolutely not worth the price.

Vasquez is a hidden gem for lunch. Their Cuban is excellent.

New Orleans Food & Spirits, Chimes, and Busters all have decent seafood, but I consider these restaurants a step down from all of the above. Think your classic fried shrimp, oyster, etc. establishments.

I wasn't going to respond to that post just because it's certainly that poster's prerogative to avoid their restaurant, but then I saw your post and I agree. My experience is that she is fine, but is one of those people that probably shouldn't have social media. Dave is awesome. Most laid back dude ever.

Regardless, I don't care what her political opinions are. Their food is excellent, reasonably priced, and I enjoy good food. So, I will continue eating at their restaurant. If her political/social positions made their way into my dining experience, maybe I'd think differently. I've never had a bad experience or meal at Del Porto and I would put it up against any of the better restaurants I've eaten at, anywhere.

I promise you they won't notice if that poster doesn't go to their restaurant. It's hard to get in the place on Thursday-Saturday nights.

politics is stupid. Del Porto and Greyhound are both superior dining experiences we’ve enjoyed dozens and dozens of times and will continue to do so. Greyhound especially we love that place

Agreed . We hit up Greyhound for work lunch quite a bit. Love their pizzas. Reuben and the kebab are also excellent.

On the short list. Hopefully one day over the next couple weeks.

Have y'all checked out the Little Blue Door? Very cool spot. It's in the alley directly south of Buster's but north of Mattina Bella. It is small and it was crowded, but I think it'll be a really cool bar once it settles down.

Seafood tower (clams, muscles, oysters, royal reds)

Duck/Mushroom pasta

Short rib special

old fashion / french 75

All very good. Service great and quick. Besh was in there cooking and talking to cutomers. Bar is super nice along with the entire restaurant

We also toured the cocktail bar upstairs and it is very cool. Supposed to be open by end of March

I dropped in to LBD. Was hard to gauge with the Mardi Gras crowd. Do you know who is behind it?

We went by a night or so after they opened. My understanding is that it's a couple and maybe one other individual who used to work at Carousel Bar across the lake.

It's a cool spot. I think it will self-regulate from a crowd standpoint because once the bar fills up it's a bit uncomfortable. There are booths along the wall but they're pretty tight and not very good for sitting and talking.
