Louisiana Lagniappe is/was a great place (been 10 years since I last ate there).
Same for Sammy's on Highland Road (again been 10 years for me).

Went a few weeks ago and it was terrible. May have had 10-12 customers...I hadn't been in 4-5 yrs bc there was always a wait. The food used to be great.

The one that just opened in Prairieville has to be the hottest restaurant in the metro BR area right now.

Breakfast

Louie's
Simple Joe
(Both good for lunch too)

Lunch/supper

Phil's oyster bar
Chow Yum Phat
Roberto's (not BR but deserves a shout out)
Thai Pepper
Elsie's Plate and Pie
Swagat (indian)

Oldies but goodies
George's (under the overpass on Perkins)
Pastime
The Chimes
Poor Boy Lloyd's (? Been a while, heard they went down hill)

Good and unknown
The Royal Taste of Jamaica

Edit: I deliberately tried to avoid the fancier places that are really good. Roberto's would be the fanciest on my list but it's still pretty relaxed

Not only have they been closed since March of 2020, but another restaurant & bar is there now.

Serious answers:
Upscale-ish: La Lagniappe, Manseur’s, Tsunami, Gino’s, Nino’s, Maison Lacour, French Market Bistro, Cocha

great food but a little more casual: Umami, Sushi Yama, Pinetta’s, BLDG 5, Cheng’s, Zorba’s, Rocca’s, Swagat, Elsie’s, The Chimes/Parrain’s, Overpass Merchant, Proverbial Wine Bar, Roberto’s River Road Restaurant

More casual: Thai Pepper, Royal Taste of Jamaica, Fin Bomb, Sushi Masa, Viet Garden, Louie’s, Curbside

Hole in the wall awesome: Dang’s, La Morenita, Bellue’s, Stickyard Cafe, Raul’s, The Chicken Shack, Blue Store, Birra & Barbacoa, Tony’s Seafood, Dorothy’s Soul Food,

Solid list. Could add Solera and Cecelia to the great food but more casual list.

I tried to only include restaurants I have actually eaten food from. I’ll have to check those out when I get the chance.

Glad nobody said Jubens in BR. Went there for a rehearsal dinner and my God it sucked.

Went to Lagniappe last Friday and everything was delicious. Reservations needed unless it’s a small group and you get lucky. Ordered below.

Appetizers:
Oysters lagniappe
Crab Cakes

Both were great

Entrees:
Fresh Fish en Papillote

Believe the fresh fish of the day was black drum. It was delicious.

Seafood Stuffed red fish which was a special for the night. Also really good.
