my only comment is this regarding the advertisers - i worked at the original chimes for two years, and i promise, advertising never entered into their minds (it didn't have to). so, i found it a little odd that the chimes pulled overall best restaurant....

OK these rankings are nothing short of terrible. I'll straighten it out a little bit.
quote:

Best Barbecue

1. Voodoo BBQ & Grill, 3510 Drusilla Ln., Ste. D, 926-3003, voodoobbqandgrill.com

2. TJ Ribs, 2324 S. Acadian Thruway, 383-7427

3. Jay’s Bar-B-Q, multiple locations, jaysbbq.com

Voodoo is the best and the others don't deserve a mention. They're terrible.

Best Breakfast

1. Louie’s Café, 209 W. State St., 346-8221, louiescafe.tripod.com

2. Another Broken Egg Café, two locations, anotherbrokenegg.com

3. Frank’s Restaurant, two locations, franksrestaurant.biz

Terrible

Brunch at the Chimes and at Mason's crushes all of these. Louie's is good if you're drunk at 2AM but it's not "good"
quote:

Best Burgers

1. George’s, four locations, georgesbr.com

2. Dearman’s, 7633 Jefferson Hwy., 924-1391

3. Brew-bacher’s Grill, multiple locations, brewbachersgrill.com

Best Coffee Shop

I guess the cocaine market is thriving in BR.

Dearman's is good so it deserves to be there. Other places that are more deserving than the other 2 include but are not limited to:

Riverside
Logan's (I'm sure all of you anti chain figs will disagree but you're wrong)
Times
Sammy's
River Queen (not technically br but in BR parish and it curb stomps the places on the list)
quote:

Best Dessert

1. Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro, 6171 Bluebonnet Blvd., 761-1110, copelandscheesecakebistro.com

2. Ambrosia Bakery, 11358 Perkins Rd., 763-6489, ambrosiabakery.com

3. Whole Foods Market, 7529 Corporate Blvd., 218-0452, wholefoodsmarket.com

I don't have a problem with Copeland's on the list.

What I do have a problem with is the omission of places that actually serve up a decent dessert.

DeAngelo's: Love em or hate em, but their tiramasu is top notch. Silky smooth and very tasty.

India's: Their rice pudding is the pinnacle of human achievement. If you don't like it then I don't like you and you're probably a child molester or something equally as terrible. Holy shite that stuff is awesome.

Don't have a specific location for this: but there has to be at least one bread pudding in BR that just skullfricks all of the stuff on this stupid list.
quote:

Best Fast food

1. Raising Cane’s, multiple locations, raisingcanes.com

2. Izzo’s Illegal Burrito, multiple locations, izzos.com

3. Chick-fil-A, multiple locations, chick-fil-a.com

I don't eat fast food so I don't have much to say here. I do think that Izzo's is a notch above the other's mentioned so long as they don't throw too much cilantro on your shite as they love to do.
quote:

1. Juban’s, 3739 Perkins Rd., 346-8422, jubans.com

2. Mansurs on the Boulevard, 5742 Corporate Blvd. #A, 923-3366, mansursontheboulevard.com

3. Ruth’s Chris Steak House, 4836 Constitution Ave., 925-0163, ruthschris.com

I like all 3 and won't comment further.

quote:

Best Italian Cuisine

1. Gino’s Italian Restaurant, 4542 Bennington Ave., 927-7156, ginosrestaurant.com

2. DiGiulio Brothers Italian Café, 2903 Perkins Rd., 383-4203, digiulios.com

3. The Little Village, two locations.

Never been to Gino's other than drinks and dessert so I can't comment.

DiGiulio Brothers is so terrible that I might actually be suicidal if I was Italian. Holy shite does that place ever suck the biggest theoretical cock (because no actual cock could actually provide the amount of throat gagging suckness that this place sells) I went there twice and was severely disappointed both times. Although I'm impressed. I don't think I could try hard enough for the rest of my life to make Osso Bucco taste like flavorless stew meat that some mongoloid threw in a crock pot overnight. Their only redeeming quality is that they have a decent wine list and several employees with vaginas. Man that place sucks.

quote:

Best Mediterranean Cuisine

1. Albasha, multiple locations, albashabr.com

2. Serop’s, multiple locations, seropscafe.com

3. Roman’s, multiple locations in Baton Rouge

I'm not well versed in this cuisine so I won't comment. I do like the hummus at Atcha's however.
quote:

Best Mexican Cuisine

1. Superior Grill, 5435 Government St., 927-2022, batonrouge.superiorgrill.com

2. Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant, 4738 Constitution Ave., 924-0377

3. Mestizo Louisiana Mexican Restaurant, 2323 Acadian Thruway, 387-2699, mestizorestaurant.com

Best Oriental Cuisine

Terrible. Best mexican food is at La Tienda or whatever the frick it's called on Siegen.

/thread
/your life if you disagree
quote:

Best Oriental Cuisine

1. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, 7341 Corporate Blvd., 216-9044, pfchangs.com

2. Ichiban Japanese Grill & Sushi Bar, 5741 Essen Ln., 767-2288, ichibanbr.com

3. Great Wall Restaurant, 3132 College Dr., 928-321

I don't know much and don't care much about Chinese cuisine. frick those communist chicken seasoning bastards.

But as far as japanese food goes, the following are better than Ichiban:

Sushi Yama
Tokyo
Kamado's
Koto
Kona Grill
McDonald's
Wahada
Your stoned roommate

You're starting to get the point

quote:

Best Pizza

1. Fleur de Lis, 5655 Government St., 924-2904, fleurdelispizza.com

2. DeAngelo’s Pizzeria, multiple locations, deangelospizzeria.com

3. Pastime Restaurant & Lounge, 252 South Blvd., 343-5490

I thought that Fleur de Lis closed? If I'm wrong then frick off.

The other 2 are ok. No complaints here.
quote:

Best Place for a Romantic Dinner

1. Juban’s, 3739 Perkins Rd., 346-8422, jubans.com

2. Gino’s Italian Restaurant, 4542 Bennington Ave., 927-7156, ginosrestaurant

3. Mansurs on the Boulevard, 5742 Corporate Blvd. #A, 923-3366, mansursontheboulevard.com

i.e. best place to use your date rape drugs

[quote]Best Place for Seafood

1. Mike Anderson’s Seafood, 1031 West Lee Dr., 766-7823,mikeandersonsbr.com

2. Parrain’s, 3225 Perkins Rd., 381-9922, parrains.com

3. Louisiana Lagniappe, 9990 Perkins Rd., 767-9991, louisianalagniapperestaurant.com

2 and 3 are solid

1 should be named: best place to spend 18 dollars on fried shite you can get anywhere south of I-10 but you'd rather eat here because you're a pretentious douche that places value on name recognition over quality of product. If you like this restaurant you're terrible and should write me into your will before you inevitably end your life in douche fashion.

You're welcome

Best Fast Food Service - Cane's; not the best fast food at all.

Great Wall? Wow, that's just absurd.

Louie's - best omelette. NOT the best breakfast.

How George's continues to get these awards, I have no idea. I don't even like anything there, unless it's an overpriced ribeye sandwich.

While I love the atmosphere of DiGiulio's, it is subpar Italian that will cost you and arm and a leg. I went on a date there in college and spent 120 on just two entrees and a bottle of wine. No app or desert. Damn, that was good wine, though...and awful spaghetti.

quote:

Best mexican food is at La Tienda

Agreed. No one knows until they've been.

Mike Anderson's is vastly overrated. Sammy's on Highland is far batter and that's not even in my top 3. Hell, Drusilla Seafood was better and I ate there a night before Mike Anderson's. If Mike Anderson's changed its name, no one would go.

I love the food at PF Chang's...hate the prices and portions. I know we're in a recession, but come on.

That is def. true and the number of people voting is very small.

New Orleans Magazine did a similiar poll recently, but on a smaller scale. Taco Bell was #2 for good mexican food. I am not kidding either.

225 Magazine doesn't favor advertisers. Seriously a friend of mine owns a restaurant that is on the list and he refuses to advertise w/them b/c of stuff an article once said about his place. I believe they are more politically connected than anything. The article states that 25,000 people were surveyed in the baton Roueg area. That includes a lot of college kids.

Last year New Orleans magazine rated
Popeyes as the best red beans and rice in the New Orleans area so I can believe these people with no taste buds ranking Taco Bell #2. I can't wait for catmans response when he sees who the number 1 pizza joint is.

This is simply not the case

I overheard a conversation while I was at Sushi Yama and they won't give you ANY press unless they think you're going to buy advertisement. They were talking to the management at Sushi Yama about this when I was having lunch.
