The wife wants to get me a grill for our anniversary and I don't want her to spend anymore than $400. I've went and looked at a few and I have no idea which way to go. I've always been partial to charcoal grills, but I've never had a gas grill. I had my mind set on a charcoal grill with smoker when I started looking, but I recently saw a Charbroil gas grill that I liked. Do you guys have any suggestions for a decent grill in my price range and what's your opinion of charcoal vs gas?

I have a much older version of this, but it was great for 10 years or so.

Can't go wrong with a Weber one-touch charcoal grill. You can do everything you want on them and they're only about $100. Only limitation is quantity but most people don't cook for 200 people at a time.

My only complaint with it is it takes a long time to heat up.

I swiped a 24" ID schedule 80 stainless steel pipe out of a paper mill several years ago and made a pit out of it. Got probably $40 worth of hinges, welding rods, and whatnot in it. It's badass.

I have a charbroiler duo (gas and charcoal) thats great. It even has a fire box you can buy separate for smoking and it doubles as a portable charcoal grill. Its about $300...

I was really excited when I first saw this grill a few days ago and I was actually leaning toward this grill. But I've read some reviews lately about this grill and bad rust problems on grills just over a year old. Have you had any problems with your's? How long have you had it?

I've had it 1 1/2 years. No rust.I keep it out of the weather though. There are 2 or 3 other manufacturers of dual grills now. Can't recall the names but I see them at lowes. I've also scene 2 green egg knockoffs at lowes and academy.

Ok, so I went with the Weber Performer. Got it last Wednesday and I've only been able to use it once b/c I had my wisdom teeth pulled last Thursday and I'm still feeling the aftershocks. Looking forward to maybe using it this weekend if the soreness subsides. Throw some good grilling ideas at me if you have any.....

Hondo off-set smoker at Sports Authority, 399 plus tax. I would guess it to be made from schedule 20 tubing(which is pretty good), it will last more than a few years.
