I've heard mixed things about this. I would like to try it though. How do you know when they are done? Do you crack the tail off one and sample it? If not good enough, throw back in for more soak time?

To the OP, I started a thread last year to track all the non-traditional sides that people have been putting into their boils and how they rated them - 1 being not good and 5 being the best.

hot dogs

cut up smoked sausage chunks

the traditional corn and potatoes "obviously"

peeled boiled eggs work too

After the crawfish are cooked and I've cut the heat for the soak.

get frozen BS and drop in after you cut the fire

I like edamame

i also did crab legs

For lobster, I would think throw the lobster in about 5 minutes before the crawfish

Pork Tenderloin

I’ve seen someone let a tenderloin soak in the hot boil water then finish in the oven. I remember it being really good but had been drinking all day

Occasionally throw in some stuffed olives and pineapples. Boiled a turkey with all the sides this past Thanksgiving and actually turned out very good

There is nothing wrong with throwing in 2 packs of hot dogs. I do it every time.

I never tried pineapple before I did my last boil a few weeks ago. Cut up a fresh one and threw it in right before cutting off the burner. Seemed like everyone liked it.

I usually add:

Sausage
Hot dogs
Corn
Potatoes
Onions
Garlic
Lemons
Oranges
Celery

That’s it.

hot dogs was always one of the many things we tossed in. Kids loved them.

BUT This weekend we stepped it up a notch

Cheese filled hot dogs. Back off kids, these cheezy dogs are mine

I know yall are joking but didn't someone in New Orleans throw their kid in the pot? I feel like it was 2 or 3 years ago.

Take that even further and use the Johnsonville Better With Cheddar brats. Can never have enough of these in the boil, they go like hotcakes.

My rule of thumb is to toss in after I cut the heat, and that goes for any sides that are likely to turn to mush if boiled too long. I want them to have a little texture but not fall apart. Along with brussel sprouts, these include sides like:

Cauliflour
Broccoli
Baby bok choy
Green beans
