I generally use Makers, but I am wondering if any of you find another variant to be better.

Because this is a better way to ask this question. Don’t be a doodoo head.

I use four roses or Taylor SB

Four Roses, Eagle Rare, or even Gentleman Jack have been good to me.

A little too spicy for me. My every day bourbon is simply buffalo trace.

Use a rye whiskey. Baby Saz is a great reasonably priced shelf option.

That’s not spice it’s probably oak taste you don’t like. Eagle Rare is the same juice as buffalo Trace just aged a few more years.

To the OP, traditionally you would use a rye. I like OF with a rye that has a higher corn content like saz or rittenhouse. If I use a bourbon I go with a spicier bourbon like bulleit WT101 or 4 roses. I never use something top shelf.....makes no sense.
