Anyone try filtering cheap vodka through a water filter? Cooks illustrated and Alton Brown swear by it. Supposed to be cheaper and better.

I always doctor mine up with fresh horseradish or wasabi, and cayenne.

Yes, me and a fraternity brother made a huge arse contraption using activated charcoal. We would run it through 3 or 4 times and it makes a world of difference.

8 oz. Clamato
2 oz. Campbell's tomato juice
2 oz. vodka

To taste:
Tabasco
Horseradish
Worcestershire sauce
Old Bay
Celery Salt
Bacon bits (real bacon bits)
Lemon juice
Pickle juice

The key is that your liquids have to be VERY cold.

If I'm making them at home, just Stoli, Zing Zang, lime and a spicy bean or two.

Whiskey Willie's is the best bloody mary mix. Zing Zang is second. I make them with gin...way better than vodka unless you don't like gin. I don't like vodka.

4 cups tomato juice
Juice of 2 limes
4 shots good vodka
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon celery salt
Tabasco sauce to taste
Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
Coarse salt for coating rims of mugs
1 (12-oz.) bottle Draught Guinness
Optional: Limes or olives for garnish

Directions:
1) Combine tomato juice, lime juice, vodka, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, Tabasco sauce, and salt and pepper in a large iced filled pitcher.
2) Dampen the rims of 4 mugs with water and dip them in a bowl of coarse salt. Fill each mug with an equal portion of tomato juice mixture. Float 3 ounces of Guinness on top of each mug. Serve immediately. Garnish with lime slices or olives if desired. Yield: 4 drinks.

I usually use a olive juice, salt & pepper, worcestershire, hotsauce, squeeze of lemon and lime, couple sprinkles of celery seed, rim the cup with Tony'S. Various odds and ends depending on the availibility olives, celery, but my faves are beans and okra.

Usually go Zing Zang or V8, but the Major Peters with horseradish was good the last I tried it

I'm not a Bloody Mary drinker, but watched a manager at The Blind Tiger in Shreveport, who had a recipe people around town swore by.

One thing different I noticed, he used some spicy A-1 Steak sauce as part of the mix. Gave it some body. Also, dark beer. He used Abita Turbodog in the mix.

Gave out a couple free samples to those of us who were watching (he was making a large batch for a customer's private party), and I actually liked it. Again, I'm not a Bloody Mary fan, so that was a bit impressive.

This is the recipe that I use and the best I have ever had by a longshot.

In a container: Mix the following.....

1 Quart Clamato Cocktail Juice
12 ounce's of Spicy Hot V-8 Juice
1 can of Beef Broth (12-14 ounce's)
3 ounce's of Lime Juice
3 ounce's of Worcestershire Sauce
Shake of celery seed or Cajun seasoning or both
10-12 ounce's of a good vodka (or more to taste)

On the Vodka, I like mine infused with jalapeno peppers and I really think it makes a difference. I take 2-3 fresh jalapeno peppers and slice them into slices that you can wedge down the neck of a bottle of vodka.

Garnish with a shake of sea salt and Garlic stuffed olive or Spicy green bean or Pickled pepper or any combination.

Here is one I made: Garlic stuffed olive, Pickled pepper and yes...that is a slice of baccon. (note: you can see the bottle of jalapeno infused vodka in the background)

Enjoy!

I used to make my own from scratch but there is a new mix in a bottle called gators blood that tops any I have ever made. It's new and kind hard to find, but I'm sure places like callandros, etc carry it.

Gator Blood is the best mix I've ever had. Has anyone seen it at any stores in BR other than Calandro's?
