Obviously Rendezvous is probably the most well known.. but sometimes it seems the most touristy places aren’t always the best

Is there another super good restaurant that may not even be bbq in the area?

Flight (downtown) is a really cool place if you want to go a little upscale and get away from BBQ.

Is there a particular location? Outdoor seating possibly?

Central - there are several around town, but the original on Central has the best outdoor seating. The one downtown is pretty cool - if you’re staying downtown. Stay far away from Corkys. That place is awful. BBQ shop or cozy corner are 2 other food options.

Also, as far as other non-bbq places go, anything by the Andrew/Michael group is gold. Andrew/Michael (fine dining) and Hog & Hominy (chic casual) in east memphis or Catherine & mary or the grey canary downtown.

the ribs at rendezvous are excellent but they are not BBQ, they are charcoal grilled.

Its just a day trip, so not staying anywhere

Which one would be best to avoid super long lines? Planning to go about 2-3 pm to avoid lunch rush

Central & BBQ Shop were the only two I cared for. Rendezvous was just OK. Interstate and Corkys sucked. That said in general I much prefer Texas or Carolina bbq.

I’d reconsider that if you can

grab a room at the Peabody
walk across the street to a Redbirds game
grab a meal at rendezvous

that’s a solid good time, all within walking distance

BBQ is Central hands down for me. Go to the original location.

Rendezvous is fun for the atmosphere but really meh BBQ.

Germantown Commissary was probably my favorite. Rather just go to Gus’s if I’m in Memphis which thankfully doesn’t happen often.

Interstate BBQ was probably my favorite. If you do go, keep in mind, the service is just fricking borderline unacceptable.

To be honest with you, the BBQ in Nashville has surpassed Memphis.

As a native, when I want barbecue, I go to Tops BBQ.

For fried chicken, go to Jack Pirtles.
