Does anyone have the inside scoop on whether they are really just closed for renovations or have they shut the doors permanently? I was a regular customer there for months since moving back out this way, but when I swung by a few weeks ago, there was a sign on the door saying "closed for renovations". I know businesses often claim this before shutting down permanently. Does anyone have any insight as to what the deal is there? I really hope it reopens soon. The boudin and cracklins in most of Ascension Parish is absolute trash by comparison.

why would you have reason to doubt they are renovating?

Because there was no timetable posted for when they might reopen and I've seen dozens of businesses over the past few years claim to be closing for renovations but never reopen.

They closed in early March citing Kitchen and Management issues. They posted on March 30th that they will be back soon, but still no reopening announcements.

what possible benefit to the owners is there to lie about why they are closed?

I have no idea, but I see business owners do it all the time.

Seems to happen pretty often in the restaurant biz.

Save face or buy time if they are trying to reopen maybe.

The person who bought Bergerons or the rights to open that one, ran it into the ground. The owner in Port Allen had to come in to make major changes.

Also heard that the person who bought it screwed the original owner somehow. Didn’t get the full story though.

Maybe call the one in Port Allen and ask them about it.

The space they were in was pretty much brand new. No renovations really seem to be needed.

I had heard that same story someone else posted about the franchisee messing the business up so the original Bergeron's owner is going to take it over. I need my cracklin fix so I hope they open back up soon.

It would suck to be paying that lease note and having to be closed this long though.

march 1
"We will be closed temporarily to do some renovations and Management changes. That’s right. The Bergeron’s will be taking back over to bring the love and attention to the food and customer service. We thank you for your patience."

march 30
"Update!!! We are working in the kitchen renovating and taking care of some housekeeping issues! Thank you all for your patience and understanding. When we open back up it will be with a more efficient and happier environment. Give us a chance and we will be everything you expect from Bergeron’s Boudin and Cajun Meats."

they've been closed 6 weeks.
unless you think that they are lying to their customers for some reason, it appears that they werent happy with the former operator or the existing facility, and are doing something about both

It looked like they were trucking in food and not cooking onsite

I wasn’t really trying to imply that they were lying. It just seemed unusual that they would close for renovations so soon after opening.

I heard the guy who opened it owes all kinds of people $$ including the Port Allen owners. He didn’t pay contractors or employees. The port Allen owners took it back but not sure if they are willing to pay all those people off that have $$ owed to them or if they inherit said debt? My buddy is a collections agent and is having a hard time getting in touch with the Bergeron’s...

I have a little inside info....there were outside partners involved who weren't quite skilled in the food service mgmt side of the house...remember when it first opened, one owner repeatedly said to the press "brunch!", yet none of the on ground employees knew anything about brunch, nor was there a plan in place to staff & serve brunch. A slew of poor hires were made, management turned over very, very quickly, and it was a mess.

I hope the original owners can learn from the mess and scale up their business in a sustainable way. If you can't be physically present, you need to create procedures, training & recipe/execution cards for everything you make. You can't just hope for the best and expect any sort of quality or consistency.

Hope they get it fixed. I went there several times. I really wanted to like the food but found everything to be mediocre at best. Nothing left me wanting to go back.

One good thing about them being closed last time I tried to go was that I got to try Pot and Paddle. I loved their gumbo and the plate lunches look to be legit. I'm going to stop in there again next time I'm in the area.

Pot & Paddle is great, as is Which Wich, Lit, Izzo’s, etc. there’s a lot of good choices in that area.

Pot and Paddle lunch specials are legit. Mon-Thurs they do an awesome pork roast with brown gravy. They usually sell out so get there early if you want to try it.
