Bump
These days were amazing. Unfortunately it’s all but memories now.
Is bennigans on the list for greatest chains?

I realized today how old I am, as I was trying to explain this big Bennigan's Bash to a 26 yr old female. The old Bennigan's has been Tokyo Steakhouse for many years now, and before that, was Tilted Kilt. It's crazy to think that a whole generation has passed that does not know of the great party that was St. Paddy's Day right here in Laffy.

What year did Bennigans close?
I worked there for 6 months and quit the day before st Patrick’s day because I wanted to party instead of work and they wouldn’t give me off

Original was by Cortana but they also had one on Bluebonnet

Tokyo opened in 2012 as Bennigans likely closed sometime in 2011 after corporate filed for bankruptcy and tried to restructure. Lots of crazy times at the BBB
edit (more Laf. history) ... I moved to Lafayette in 1987 when the city was still struggling from the oil bust. I remember going to Festival International in 1988 and downtown Jefferson Street looked like downtown Opelousas today. It was literally that bad with only a few businesses open .... costume shop, Abdalla's, Dwyers Cafe, Kellers Bakery, Heymans Department Store. People who invested and bought property downtown made a killing

Had to be mid/late 2000s. There had been a fatality around that time, when pedestrians leaving the Bash got hit trying to cross Johnston street to get back to their car.
Blaze, I was at Fest Int that year too. New festival. Drove in from LSU with my buddy who had a lady friend who lived near downtown. She was a hippy chick who went by the name Taco. I wasn’t in to hippy chicks, but she and her friends were cool and not overly-philosophical. Good times.

There was a Tilted Kilt in that building after Bennigans and before Toyko that survived for maybe 12-18 months. Bennigans would've closed around 08-09ish.
ETA: I never got to make the bash, if I remember correctly the last one took place a few months before I turned 21.

As a kid we went to the Bennigans in Metry a few times - I was always fascinated with the shamrock sprinkles
I don’t remember when it closed - but we always went to O’Flaherty’s for St Patrick’s day

I forgot about the TK ... so 2009'ish sounds correct

quote:You didn't have to be 21 to go. Lafayette didn't start caring about 21+ drinking age until the late 00's. I turned 18 in 05 and never had issues getting drinks at bars.
